Hi I have polymyositis and my Rheumatologist just filled out my DBQ. I believe the correct DBQ is Non-Degenerative Arthritis (INCLUDING INFLAMMATORY,

AUTOIMMUNE, CRYSTALLINE AND INFECTIOUS ARTHRITIS) AND

DYSBARIC OSTEONECROSIS (21-0960M-3) http://www.vba.va.gov/pubs/forms/VBA-21-0960M-3-ARE.pdf

I looked at Fibromyalgia DBQ and the CNS DBQ. Fibromyalgia I ruled out because polymyositis doesn't usually cause pain specifically from the condition but secondary pain caused from compensation of your weakness is likely. Also the Key tests that a person with mysositis regularly gets checked for are missing from the Fibromyalgia form and the CNS form. Most notably the CK levels which are the main numbers looked at are on the Non-Degenerative Arthritis form.

I was rated by the VA at my PEB as inflammatory myopathy rated analgous to Fibromyalgia 40%(Max) because there is no "code" for inflammatory myopathy.

There is however a code for myositis in the e-CFR.

http://www.ecfr.gov/cgi-bin/text-idx?rgn=div6;node=38%3A1.0.1.1.5.2 (code 5021)

I believe that it is possible to get the inflammatory myopathy rated analgous to fibromyalgia and polymyositis rated seperate even now when I go to an appointment it says fibromyalgia even though I go for polymyositis and have that problem code listed in my VA files. I have been out of the military only 5 months now, but this site has helped me so far with my research on this rare condition and how it is confusing with the way the VA looks at it. I haven't filed for an increase yet but in the process of gathering everything now.

I am scheduled to start IVIG in December. Which on it's own can open up possible claims like the headaches/migraines that will come with it.

VA cases with secondary issues from IVIG -

If you have any other questions let me know I may be able to help with what I have learned. It is a pretty rare disease and not many people are familiar with it. It is my main disability that I have been dealing with for 2 years.
