0 Moderator broncovet Posted October 17, 2018 Moderator Share Posted October 17, 2018 Whether or not you are competent to handle finances, is a seperate and independent issue to SMC L (Aid and Attendance). In other words you could need aid and attendance, you could be found financially incompent, or both. Either or both, depending on your circumstances. Becoming financially incompetent does not automatically render you entitled to SMC L.

Becoming financially incompetent does not automatically render you entitled to SMC L. My advice is you should avoid financial incompetence if possible. If your doctor does render you financially incompetent, be sure and tell VA you want your wife to be fiduciary. You want her, not some stranger managing your finances, trust me. I have read the horror stories. If your wife can not or will not do it, then have your son as an alternative.
