Unemployed Timeframe

Is there a time frame that you must be unemployed for x amount of time before you can file for IU for depression?

Nope I think day one is the time or sooner if you know when.

Pete is correct, there is no set time frame. The minute you loose your job because of a service-connected disability and can show medical evidence that you're unable to obatin and maintain further employment do to your service-connected disabilities, you should file the VA Form 21-8940.

What if you take a medical retirement(federal service). would that have any effect on IU?

No, actually it should help the IU claim as long as the reason for having to take medical retirement was due to your service-conected disabilities.
