purple
Here are the recalls involving Potassium Supplements. I take these as well due to chronic low Potassium...but have no idea if mine are affected since the VA re-bottles the meds. There are 2 e-mails: Recall on Ther-Rx Brand Potassium Supplements The Ther-Rx Corporation, a subsidiary of KV Pharmaceutical, has recalled all lots of Ther-Rx brand microK Extencaps which contain the active ingredient potassium chloride. These recalled capsules may have been manufactured under conditions that did not meet the current manufacturing standards called Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMPs). Ther-Rx is now recalling all of their products to ensure that these products do not reach patients. The Ther-Rx capsules and the NDC numbers involved in the recall are listed below. The NDC number is a product number that is sometimes listed on a prescription label. microK Extencaps 8mEq, (NDC 64011-0010-04, NDC 64011-0010-11, & NDC 64011-0010-08) microK Extencaps 10mEq, (NDC 64011-0009-04, NDC 64011-0009-11, & NDC 64011-0009-08) For more information, please visit: http://www.ther-rx.com/pressRelease012809.aspx and http://www.fda.gov/oc/po/firmrecalls/therrx01_09.html ******************* Recall on All ETHEX Brand Potassium Chloride Capsules and Tablets The ETHEX Corporation, a subsidiary of KV Pharmaceutical, has recalled all lots of ETHEX brand potassium chloride extended release capsules and tablets. The ETHEX capsules and tablets and the NDC numbers involved in the recall are listed below. The NDC number is a product number that is sometimes listed on a prescription label. Subvet416
It's criminal that the VA still prescribes potassium chloride when safe chelated (bound up in a protein rather than a salt) forms of the mineral have been available for years. Medical doctors do this precisely because potassium chloride is dangerous and therefore controlled by prescription. They have no control over chelated potassium supplements which can be purchased openly anywhere vitamins and minerals are sold. The same scam operates with the drug Lithium carbonate, used to treat bipolar disorder. Most people with these mood disorders have a potassium deficiency. Potassium is essential and found in every cell of the body. Lithium is chemically similar, but a toxin, and so can only be prescribed and monitored by an MD psychiatrist. To regain your health, follow the money until you see where it leads, then move out in the opposite direction. See my post on how I recovered with orthomolecular therapy. Good Luck! purple
Yeah, and my potassium levels are still lower than they should be. But.....will the VA docs investigate why? No, they just keep shoving higher doses of supplements at me. BTW-The Dayton VA pharmacy told me that they potassium they prescribe wasn't involved in the recall.....I have no way of knowing for sure because they re-bottle the meds; just have to take their word for it...eeeeek!
