  1. I am 70% rated. All of my disability is service related, caused by Agent Orange in Viet Nam.My wife is disabled too.Our disability checks are our only income. I have other claims pending for PTSD,Depression,Carotid Artery Stenosis. I have had these claims in for 10 months now. They are still in gathering information phase. I have GERD and Barrets Esophagus. Are these conditions rateable ?.I have had Barrets Esophagus since 2007. Should I wait for my other claims to be done before I put a claim in for Barrets ? I do not want a new claim to hold up my other claims ,since I have been waiting 10 months already.

  2. CB,

It's SOP to get a 21-8940 (IU application) when you hit the 70% level.

You are correct - if you are employed it will be denied.

I have been 70% now for over a year now.I did not get a IU application when I hit 70%.All my 70% is service related.I put in for IU my self 9 months ago.I sent in a copy of my awards letter from social security showing that social security finds me unable to work.I all so sent the VA a letter from my heart doctor stating I can no longer work.I sent in everything they asked for .After 9 months my claim is still in the gathering information stage.

  3. I understand your frustration.

Using the IRIS inquiry online and calling the 1 800 # are good suggestions.

Many VBA offices are back logged due to the amount of claims and lack or staff to rate the claims. The staff rating the claims are held to a production standard, which requires the staff to process a set amount of issues per day. Cases can have 1 issue or 100+ issues, depending on how many conditions you claimed (right knee, right ankle and anxiety is 3 issues). Cases are supposed to be rated based on date of claim and then the date all the medical C & P exams are in. It ususally takes 6 months from the C & P exam to get your rating. The more issues or conditions you claim the longer it will take. Remember you will get BACK PAY!

It has been 8 months since my claim has been filed. It is still in developement stage, and I have not had a C&P exam yet!!

  4. I I am 70% all service related. At the VA Clinic they told me to keep my outside heart doctor and not have a VA heart doctor. That way if something heart related happens,I can be taken care of localy. My heart doctor sends me for a stress test and and other heart related tests each year. For the past 5 years I have been paying for these tests. out of my pocket Medicare paid 80%,I had to pay the other 20% every year out of my own pocket. My heart problems are all service related. Would not it be better for me to ask for a VA heart doctor. IF I had a VA heart doctor, would not the tests be paid for by the VA and save me a lot of money? Or could I be re-inbursed each year for the tests my outside heart doctor has done. I can not see why I should pay for service related tests.
