Once you file your claim and get to the point of filing a Notice of Disagreement with their decision (The VA always low balls you or deprives you of some benefit) you can hire an attorney to take you the rest of the way. I probably lost many thousands of bucks because I did not file a timely appeal back in 1973, but I gradually learned from guys like Phil and gals like Berta to file my own claims, and just hang on until I got something out of it. Don't hesitate to file because you are not a lawyer. You have to file for benefits to get them. There are people here you had their discharges changed just by filing with the proper department, and I got 60% increase just by filing an appeal. I got benefit of doubt. Filing in a timely way is the main thing. Once you file see it through all the way to federal court if you have to do it that way. Screwing vets out of benefits is the motto of the our government since the Revolutionary War.

I can't believe what just happened. My husband submitted a claim through ebenefits in January 2015 after beginning treatment for PTSD at the VA in the fall of 2014. In early May 2015 he got a call to schedule his C&P exam. He had the exam on the Friday before the long Memorial Day weekend. Checked ebenefits on Tuesday morning and the case had been closed already. He was given 100% for PTSD with an extra year of retroactive pay back to January 2014. This was accomplished in one business day! I almost fell off my chair when I logged on to ebenefits.

Just over 4 months start to finish and a 100% rating. Still waiting on the BBE but the ebenefits letters and payment info are available and I have faith that it will come soon.

The VA outdid itself on this one. I have no idea how or why but thank God. We were really struggling and this is an incredible blessing.

I just got mine on the 24th of this month! I was able to see it on Ebenefits before the decision letter has even made it to my doorstep!

Hello, I posted on here a few weeks ago in reference to having a C&P exam. My exam was on May 18. In 2013, two years after I initially filed, I received a 0% rating and was denied everything else. My claim was decided on without a C&P in 2013? I was very confused about this? I after calling the VA several times to get an exam scheduled, I found out this year, that my claim had been closed and was never reopened. After calling almost every month for 2 years, I found it hard to believe no one told my my claim was closed. I just found out my claim has been decided on ebe nines, I'm 90%!!!! I can't believe it!! I separated from the military, didn't retire. When should I expect my back pay? I know it varies but help me out! :)
