  1. Hello all, Long time since I have posted. Can anyone tell me if they have received clothing allowance this year? If I am denied this year (I got it last year) will the VA tell me I have been denied, or will I just not hear anything? Thanks, Todd
  2. Hello all, As I am sure most of us know, 10% and above can get eye exams and glasses through VA. If any of you have done so, you know the glasses offered are pretty limited in style and size. If you want ANY extras, you will pay dearly. I would like to share a GREAT option with everyone. Zinni optical (zinnioptical.com) has quality, prescription glasses in many styles with lots of options for really great prices. You really can get glasses for under $20 dollars in many cases. I have used them and have been VERY satisfied. Hope this helps someone. Best always, Todd
  3. Hello all, It has been 3 months since my C&P exams and have not heard anything yet. Perhaps that is not unusual, but two previous times I had decision in hand exactly 3 weeks from C&P exams. Is there a phone number or email I can use to check on the status of claims? As always, thanks to all of you Todd
  4. Hello all, just curious, recently awarded 40% sc. What is the process for receiving the extra payment for spouse/child? Sent in requested paperwork(spouses previous divorce decree and childs SSN). A few days ago, got a letter from VA stating that they are working on my claim for benefits...I thought they would get that paperwork from me, check it out and presto! I would start getting the extra...ok,ok, stop laughing! I know NOTHING is presto with VA. Does anyone know how long this generally takes? what VA has to do to decide all is in order? Will that be back paid to claim filing date as well
  5. When I had my last C&P exam in January, I literally left the appt, walked down to medical records and within 5 minutes had a complete copy of everything dictated in that appt.! Truly remarkable. So far, Durham VAMC has been a pleasure to deal with. Good luck! Todd
  6. Hello all, posting this to get some input from this remarkably knowledgeable crowd! This is rather long so please bear with me. Got a recent rating of 20 percent for damage to facial nerve bilaterally, incurred during extensive upper and lower jaws (almost 13 hours in OR) at any rate, just missed 30% rating because damage was not deemed to be total paralysis of nerve. Severe, just not severe enough I guess. Had a 90-120 minute C&P exam with VAMC dentist during which he stated repeatedly that I would get at least 10%, probably more and dental out of the deal due to the severity of my sympt
  7. Have been an avid reader and occasional poster to this forum. Wanted to let all know that I finally have resolution on my claims issues. Got the envelope today. 40 percent. Will sleep well on that for now and decide if it is worth pursuing further. 3 weeks from date of C&P exam to envelope in my hands! Almost exactly a year from filing claim. No complaints. Best of luck to all who are still in the process. Todd
  8. Thanks for the replies to my dental questions. I had my original C&P with neurologist, the same day I had exams for back and wrist. Neuro exam was a total waste of time. When I got my decision from VA, it said "This claim has been deferred. Sent to clinic of appropriate jurisdiction for action" two months later I had a dental C&P exam. I thought neurologist would be the one, but I guess that since problems originated after 10 hrs of extremely involved upper and lower jaw surgery, decision was made that dental was way to go. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks! Todd US Army

  10. Hello all...great site! Currently 20% SC for wrist and thoracic spine, had a deferred decision on almost total numbness of face, from eyes to below chin after 10 hrs of jaw surgery at fort Gordon. First saw an old neurologist for C&P. He never even asked me about my face! talked to me for about 10 minutes, patted me on the back and said"you will hear something in a few weeks" and walked out! Anyhow, Finally got scheduled for Dental C&P at Durham VAMC. Could not have had a nicer Dentist to deal with. Spent almost 90 minutes with me. Very thorough history, xrays etc. He told me I "definit
  11. Hello all! Fantastic site! Thanks to all who post such good info. I recently received 20% SC for two of the three issues I claimed to VA. My decision paperwork stated that a decision on the third issue had been deferred, that VA needed more information and that my file had been forwarded to the appropriate clinic. VA guy tells me that is good, as it means VA feels there is merit to claim, that I will be seeing oral/facial surgeon at VA hospital for eval, then that info will be sent to rating board. Just wondered if anyone else has run into that problem, or had any thoughts on it. The third
