  1. Hi, thanks in advance for taking the time to read and/respond...my prior AD ARMY spouse applied for A+A DEC2007, it was denied the first time around and immediately appealed. Then it was approved w/ an official letter approx. Apr2009. Long story short am active duty and down range, but will be going on leave shortly and have a meeting w/ the VA rep who came by the house earlier. Was told it's not necessary to bring the veteran to the appt. since she was already seen. Her family helps her and was left w/ contact info I needed to follow up on upon my return. What I'd like to know is the following: 1) What is the appt for w/ the VA field rep? is it to determine more medical background info if the app has been approved for A+A already or is it just for the fiduciary info? Funds are being witheld due to incompetence being recently found. already rated 100% T+P for a few years already, the newest positive change is the approved A+A rating. The A+A rating is at the lowest letter level (can't recall off hand) for a mental health issue. was informed that it's rare A+A is given for mental probs. and that she's at the maximum level compensation the VA has for her mental probs., and we are thankful the process hasn't been a diffcult climb for years like many of y'all have been put through. I'm thankful for the forums giving heads up advice! 2) Backpay is dated to Dec2008 instead of the date of application DEC2007, is this correct? 3) her family took advice of an A+A person receiving homemaking and home aid care to pursue it through a VA social worker, but the mental health soc. worker wasn't much help at all and didn't even believe A+A could be granted without a physical disorder since this is the first she had seen...needless to say there wasn't much info to pluck about a homemaking and home aid care (which is exactly what those who care for her are doing sans the A+A funding...she will set food and stove aflame without supervision, requires personal care although she's ambulatory, etc., etc. it's all documented for @least the past 6 yrs in her medical files). I read somewhere and failed to bookmark that the VA allots 5 hrs/day for that service. Where can i find out more about that service to get her started on that application route? What is that prog. called if I have it wrong? Should i bring it up @the appt w/ the VA field rep @his office/is it better to go through a VSO? Thank you! Sgt. E
  2. thank you Teac and berta for the info. I didn't even know about the BVM until reading your response, Mrs. Berta, so am going to start there and everywhere to better understand. Nope, definitely not an easy to understand program, but i am putting time into it since it can be helpful. again, many thanks!
  3. was informed that the rating decision is good for 10 yrs. and to just let my file stay as is since it depends on the person reviewing the file...years ago a 100% tot. and perm. comp for va and a rating of "L" for a + a was recently approved. is there a way to appeal for a higher letter rating/it's such a hit or miss thing it's not recommended. My a+a claim was first denied, but upon appeal it was approved. also, is there a break down/some sort of table that defines what problems fit into which letter categories under a+a? what's house and home bound/is it the same as a+a? is that a separate prog. to apply to or is it considered applied to already when a+a was already applied for? many thanks
  4. claim payment is being witheld pending incompetency finding. what is reviewed for if a person uses a relative/spouse to be their fiduciary? a+a has been approved and would like to use aunt/hubby (spouse is deployed in the mid east w/ the army right now though) as fiduciary whenever the va rep comes for the in house appt. husband was recommended as a fiduciary over aunt b.c. the vso warned that the va does not like to use distant relatives as fiduciaries and that i might end up getting a va appointed fiduciary...are the credit records pulled or what is looked at when granting/denying someone to be a fiduciary? thanks a bunch! t

  6. Hi all, I've been having some functional days lately and found this website...it's a great site, thanks to those who made it and keep it as a positive resource. I find it uplifting when I see people finally getting the benefits they should've gotten eons ago and hope y'all don't give up hope if you're still stuck in the process. I'm just happy today w/ ordinary miracles (i.e., being able to be clear minded enough to have a nice meal w/ my family and not too forgetful w/ the steps required in being able to do that). Am 29 yrs. of age, was medically retired @ 24 by the army (30% army and 100%va) and am still involved w/ the army--but this time as a spouse of an active duty member. I think being a mother is much more challenging than what the army ever threw at me (was tdrl'd as a spc. and was a 91w/medic and slated to be a 97b w/ a lang. identifier of arabic when in the guard before going ad in my old 91w m.o.s.). well, thank you all for your service and I wish you guys happy holidays + luck w/ your claims!
