"10/28/2021 1:30 PM EDT Social Security payments may increase annually based on changes to the cost of living. When this happens, the Veterans Benefits Administration (VBA) reduces pensions for veterans and other beneficiaries because they are receiving more income from another source. The OIG received two allegations in 2020 that the automated letters sent to beneficiaries failed to provide proper notification before pensions were reduced or discontinued. The review team found that pensions were not reduced in accordance with policies to include specific information in the notification letters and to consider evidence that the pension should not be reduc…

First off thank you all for what you do. This site is such a wealth of knowledge. I have a question on compensation. I have a bad shoulder and its service connected 20%. The VA wants to do surgery to try and fix it. If allow them to do that would I lose the 20% compensation? I mean if the do the surgery and I get the range of motion back. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

After being Granted TDUI Effective March 2004 and having disability rating increased from 60% to 70% by the BVA at the beginning of of Oct, I have made 2 fruitless call to the VA 1-800-827-1000. Is there a way to get and keep getting an update on where my grant is in the finalazation process. I am almost regretting that they sent me the letter of winning on both counts. It causes alot of stress and anxiety. I would assume after going on 15 years it is going to be quite the retro. Main question though how to follow it progression or non progression. ? My grant plainly says TDUI back to March 2004 and 70% same. But the 1-800 # either doesnt know much or they won't tell you.…

I have been away from hadit for quite some time. I was dealing with several health issues that made it hard for me to keep the intensity needed to deal with the insanity produced by the VBA. Recently, I decided to move into a retirement home. They have independent living, assisted living, skilled nursing, memory care, respite and hospice all in this facility. I am currently independent living. I am trying to plan my finances based on what benefits I can expect from the VA for nursing home care. Right now I have permanent balance and fatigue issues. I have been reading about aid and attendance and the fact that veterans with a 70%+ service connected rating have benefits. …

Many may not be aware that one can request that a Aid and Attendance claim CAN be expedited when showing that you have been diagnosed with a terminal illness when you file your Aid and Attendance claim. Long story, short version: I have been on the non-service connected pension which currently is $1,072.00 per month. In April of 2016 I was diagnosed with Stage III B terminal lung cancer. i then needed to file a claim for Aid and Attendance for help with my daily needs. Which is an additional $716.00 per month. I was worried about how long my claim would take to be approved/denied. After doing some research I learned that when filing a Aid and Attendance cla…

From 2009 I was receiving Pension. In 2015 I started receiving compensation. I'm currently rated at 70%. My question is: I have an appeal in for EED of 2009 for increased rating, will I be entitled to retroactive pay from 2009?

I can't seem to find anything (not even online) about how mental health and the need for Daily Living help effects the chances of getting SMC and at what rate. I have PTSD and Schizoaffective (Bipolar Type) and documented memory loss from Electric shock treatment. But no where do I find if I qualify for SMC and if I do where I would possibly rate (L+ K?). Can anyone chime in on how Aid and Attendance and mental health works in mental health situations like mine. I am not housebound but do require constant help in and outside the house and Aid and Attendance of another person. I do have two doctors a psychologist and neurologist who say I need Aid and Attendance a…

Folks: Over the last couple of days I've been trying to learn about the tax implications of my VA Disability retro payment and new disability pay that I received last July? Currently, I'm at a 90% Disability Rating and it when I got the VA letter, I saw that I was already put in for concurrent receipt due to the fact that I receive a military pension already. Anyway, I guess I'm supposed to make some kind of "election" with DFAS and I totally missed that? I guess that I have 1 year from the time that I got my first award letter so I am still good. Right now, I've been working on putting my tax package together for accountant and read that "Concurrent Receipt" is n…

A month ago, I was awarded Spousal Aid & Attendance for my assisting my wife with her Multiple Sclerosis at $105 a month based on my 70% veteran with spouse. Today, in the eBenifits letters, in my benefit summary letter it now has; You are receiving non-service connected pension: Yes And in the letters, I have a Commisary letter, (however, it says I have to contact them). So, I allready have access to the Commisary as a grey retirie, however it 3 1/2 hours away, so not so benificial. What else should I be looking for now that I have a non-service connected pension and commisary privrilidges? Thanks, Hamslice

His father in law seems to be qualified for Pension and maybe even A & A...however the vet has been treated at VA in lower NY state but lives in PA. Should the family be trying to get a PA vet rep for his pension claim or can all VAMCS have someone to direct him (such as vet reps) as to where the pension app should go? I am assuming the VA he gets treated at is in one of the NY VISns and so that would mean he needs help to apply to either Buffalo RO, or NY City RO. ??? I am not sure.

My buddy is a military retiree who also collects VA disability (50%) he's thinking of apply for SSDI which would give him 3 checks. He is also a FERS employee but may not be able to keep up the GS job much longer due to service connected problems and told me he was going to apply for FERS disability retirement giving him 4 checks. I told him I thought 3 checks were possible, never heard of 4 (quadruple). Any thoughts??? Thanks

Hello all, I'm in a bad way here. My wife of 27 years walked out on me a few months ago, and I am now left left to survive on my meager retirement of $600 a month. I know I will qualify for NSC pension as I was awarded it just a few years ago, and only became ineligible due to taking early retirement in 2012, which put us over the financial limit. My question is, I was just wondering, if anybody has had any experience or knowledge of this, as to know, will I have to have divorce papers in my hand, as proof I no longer have my wifes' income, before I even reapply. There is no doubt a divorce is forthcoming. It's just, at the moment, I don't even know where she is,…
