Hey to all I am in the position as usal where I expect the VA to deal me short on my behalf. I am SC for Degenarative disc disesase 10% for about the last three years. SHort story is that my back has gotten worse and now I have been diganosed by civialian Nuero surgeon as nerve dammage to my left leg resulting from the DDD that is service connected. WHere do I find the statistics or laws for the ratting critiques? I thank you for your time and I always get good advice from the board.

Hey Here is the skinny, I got rated for Hypertensive heart disease SC from High blood pressure that went from 10% from HBP to 60% for HHD. During the taht time in the middle of all of this I was first diagnosed by echo cariodgram as to an enlarged heart only no other symptoms other than echo showing enlarged heart with chest pains. I then had to be seen by cardiologist and he diagnosed me with HHD with the combined echo and Ejection fraction and swollen ankles due to fluid backing up from hearts inability to move blood around the body and extreme fatigue and shortness of breath. I want to know is there a way to fight for the time between the actual date of docutmented enlarged heart and actual day of "Diagnosed Hypertensive heart disease"? I guess it is about a year and 1/2 or two years from the date of enlarged heart first shown. I am doing it to increase my current rating is it possible for me to try and get this higher rating and be retroactive? I hate to ask all of this but I knwo if I get an answer some one esle might be helped also. Thanks again for any advice....

Hey I do thank you for the infromation if you could post a link I will go look it up I got my rating down from the VA and no mention of L3-L4-L4-L5-L5-S1 Degnaritve disc Disease. I had wanted a new MRI for my back since I had a reallly bad episode this last week. I had never been to Sick call within the VA until then but no more. I do thank you and I did want o make a point to mention I was just ahppy to get the DDD in and get service conection. Thank You for your information and help....

Hey I had a question for you on your opinion on your meds. I am of the understanding that unless you have a defect of the eye related to the HBP in turn caused the Damage you are golden for at least 10%. I on the other hand am still looking for that exact relation of confirmed Hypertensive retionpathy with no vison defect other than the presence of retiophathy. What Burnt my rear was the fact the Doctor stated I should take better care of my Hypertension. I of course was raised to respect authority but it is hard not to. I do not recomend no ne not taking his meds for no reason Period. I suffer from numerous high blood pressure problems but there is no way that I or anyone other than your Doc can make the call.

Hey Thanks to all I know If there was a problem I could get me an answer to it here. I will keep you all posted on what I hear I think there reasoning (If they have any) is that there were no defects with my vision other than a few spots of cotton kind of white peices that I see out of the corner of my eye I told them that it was on the report. Other than that I think they are trying to say it is my fault that my blood ressure is my fault. Oh well have a good day

Hey I meant to ask has anyone been approved for hypertensive retinopathy (High blood Pressure dammage to eyes) I had filed a claim but the board maintains that since I am 20/20 corrected with glasses I am service connected but at 0%. I had thought if one was serivce connected for HBP and it affected a persons organs as it has others heart and kidneys and other organs it has to be shown that an active ethology or link is needed to tie the two together? What am I missing? I look forward to all answers Thanks....

I wanted to update my progress with VA. I was turned away after a vist to Sick call (ER visit) I was told that since I am under a contract for my opiate pain medicine I am not alowed any additonal pain meds I made sure doc knew right awy I wanted to be seen for my back not there for just pain meds. Result 100 mile one way trip appoinment made for MRI I was told that I should loose weight to control blood presssure and help my back. I told my Doc to check my record had High blood pressure since boot camp weighed in at 135lbs then Long long ago. I was angry being treated that way but did not show out I am planning on calling hospital and writing a letter Doc was same person who I had switched from serive years before due to back issues when I was told nothing wrong with my back prior to outside surgery. What is any ones thoughts on my experince? I was not a drug seeker I was there to find out if it was just a normal back being out or another dsic blown out. I can not put on my shoes at thsi time nor sleep much at all going on third day of little sleep. I thank you for your time just wanted to update share my experince. Yes I do agree with you the way they rate you seems like as usal the law is on thier side how ever if I start going to the VA everytime my back goes out and there is evidence that my back is getting worse by evidenc of the most recent MRI I wonder how that will go. I have in the past always laid around and kind of nursed my back to get going again. I am now going to my Civialian Doctor or to the Vetrans urgent care.....

Hello to everybody, I need to know how the Degenerative disc disease is rated and on my last C/P I was rated @ 10% My thoughts are if all they used were x-rays how acurate would the rating be? I have some mri of my spine from 2006 that I am going to present for evidence in a claim. The MRI was doen at my local hospital I have had a dsicectomy where they cleaned out the disc that was falling apart. I am no nuerologist but I have Disc Disease in L3, L4, L5 and L5 S1 I knwo that it hurts me everyday. Any advice from those of you cursed as I am with a bad back let em know. Should I wait a period of time before putting this or right now since the claim just came back? I told the fellow I woud post it and find out. Hey thanks what the claim was for was Migraines secondary to SC Hypertension that also is linked to hyoertensive heart disease and hypertensive retionpaythy (dammage to the eyes) I got turned down for that one but I am going to find out if I can find out the reason. I read the statement of the case but it made no sense since I have all of this other stuff related to my SC hyoertension. I got some test results back from VA Lab this last month I am waitng for next lab owrk to see if my kidneys are starting to be affected by high blood pressure. I offer this as prof that high blood pressure is the silent killer. I have a 4 year old and a 9 year old I plan on going to some trips and life in genral with them so please everyone watch that blood pressure it is a killer no joke. Hey to all I just got back my claim and I was shocked and and perplexed at the same time. I filed the original claim in 2002 and I took it all the way to DC and the case got remanded back at 0% but I submited new evidence and it was rated at 30% I never gave up or had a lapse in the case. Can I go back and ask that they look at the original claim date instead of this 2005 date they used as an effictive date? I wanted to you all as a group rather than my Rep whom I have a lot of respect for I just hate to call unless I am right. I am up to 80% on my total claim but I think they owe me some back time on this and two other claims they just decided on.Have a good day.

Hey I would like to point out I am no Cardiologist I just happen to have hypertensive heart disease so that is my spot. I have a couple of questions and some hope for you. Did you have a positive echo for enlarged heart or was it from the EKG? reason being an enlarged heart will show up on ultrasound (that is where mine first became noticed) I then got to having chest pains. Shortness of breath and no energy lead to an elevated rating. I would suggest you sit down with your Doc and get his reason for what can help you at the point you are at. This condition is awful it robs you of so many things but it can be helped it just takes a long time for the heart to get into the shape it gets and a long time to return to normal. I also wanted to know who done this VA or Civ? I would shop around if you are able with the Civ Docs hit me with personl message I will pass on some stuff do not want to bore others. I wish you well and in my opinion if you can get control of you High Blood pressure it saves a lot of damage I have damage to 3 other organs now due to high blood pressure service connected. well here is the final results I had my C/P and the Doctor who examened me stated in his report that with my records and the entry and exit exam showing a hearing loss it was a 50/50 chance that my hearing loss was a result of my military service I told him of a accident that I was seen as a result of a shower unit cooking off in the Filed during bearhunt in 186 in Korea where i was treated and it was documented that my mentioned hearing test on exit from the service showed a hearing loss. I will advise I was told that 4 different claims were rated yesterday and I should hear something this week or next crossing everything I can cross. Have a good day thanks for all your help

Well It seems like every time I turn around this high blood pressure is attacking another organ in my body. Many years of high blood pressure has swollen my heart damaged the vessels in my eyes and now is according to the Veterans Clinic blood test and a civilian Kidney Doctor I am at stage 1 kidney disease. Has nyone out there have any knowledge of my newest problem? I am going to file a claim Monday but I am afraid to do it before I get my last C/P exam this next weekend. Any Ideas on that please let me know. I have been to over 4 c/p exams in the last three months. I hate to file the claim and have my case put back on another desk. I enjoy the forum and I thank all of you in advance. If any of you had H/B in Service to please even though you take the meds and do everything they tell you to do this stuff marches on with out stopping. Have a good day

Hey I guess I should have checked back with you all, I have a buddy much like myself he got 0% hearing loss, 10% tinitus. I Have the same thing verified through the VA Clinic I got the records and sent them in but my hearing loss is in only 1 ear and so is the ringing. I was told by the lady who did the testing that the ringing would not stop but at least with the hearing aid I could get some relief. I do thank you for the help. I submited all my post induction hearing test in service hearing test and seperation hearing test results for my claim. I took them to a civilian Doc he told me by the results he would not have a problem determing the claim but he is not the one I have to look towards. Have a good day and thanks to all...

Thanks Yes I have had a claim in through my local VA office. Yes it has been over 4 years and counitng but I am still happy with at least getting my hearing aid. It has gone back and forth I will have to bring it up again the next time I go for a scheduled meeting. Thnaks I was curious if this was a coomon practice. Thanks again for the advice

Hey I have had a claim in for years I kept asking the Docs for a hearing consult told nothing. I got a new Doc he got me in now after over 4 years I got my hearing aid for the right ear and still no cmp in sight. Is this common or am I the ususal case. The ears still rings all the time but at least I do not have to blast the TV. Thanks have a good day......

Hey easy question I was told all my claims (3) are at the rating board as of this past Wensday I have had CMP on all 3 cases so I sit waitng like the rest of us all any idea on how long it will take just curious? Here is my deal I too had Hypertension in Service Enlarged my heart after 20 years of uncontroled hypertension (use of meds works for a while then have to adjust meds) I got diagnosed with sleep apnea in 2002. Many years after my discharge in 89 what I want to know like many of you I wat to find a link from my SC hypertnesion that would connect the newly diagnosed sleep apnea to my 20year old hypertension which has caused my current hypertensive heart disease. To top it off I got dianosed with type 2 diabetes my luck runs awful. Any help sure would be apriciated I am amazed at this network and the knowledge that comes out of it. I thank all of you for any help. Ihad posted ealier about my cousin he got 50% in the mail the other day that problem is solved sure would like to know of the link some case law would help me figure this out. Adios

Yes I was in the same boat Berta was I kept checking my account and the money was there but I knew there was no letter in yet so I sat on it for a week and once the letter got there My wife took care of it. LOL have a good day and good luck tell no one about the money untill you have to. Ha Ha
