  1. Thanks for the info Berta- I would love to use my GI bill and take some finance classes- I only need about 6 to finish a Masters Degree- but at the same time, I fear taking these classes may hinder my SSDI review in the future (I understand this is one of the review questions). The intent is not to get rehab training but to give me a personal goal and something to do. I really doubt I will ever be able to go back to work, but I hate sitting here and watching by GI bill clock tick away.

In your experience- Have you every known of people who loose their SSDI because they took classes that lead to a degree? I have read several post and tried to find info on the internet about this but have yet to find a firm answer.

    Thanks again

  2. Berta

Again- thanks for everything- I have read some postings in the past about P&T not really being the case until 10 years- I am schedular NON IU-70% for depression- If I go back to work- will that mess things up for my P&T status- the Chapter 35 benifits are important- so I do not want to mess it up- I am already on SSDI but sitting here is driving me crazy-too much time on my hands and to many beers in the fridge

Please provide me some input on how to maintain P&T but yet not sit here and rot- I am only 44 YOS and have my GIBILL still-turned down for voch rehab and ILP (it supported my P&T)

    Thanks

  3. :D And the decision is

    100% P@T Schedular

    No future exams

Chapter 35 for spouse AND 7 kids (big benifit)

I owe it all the the knowledge and input from those on this board- It only took 2 years to get P@T after I retired in Jul 04. I do not know about the rest of you- but I have nothing but good things to say about the VARO in St Pete FL- They have always approved what ever I turned in- maybe because I learned what NOT to do from the board

Thanks to all- it is beer thirty B)

  4. I got a card in the mail stating I am eligable for medicare in October- I understand since I am tricare (and VA) eligable, I must enroll in part b but do not have to enroll in the drug plan

A book I got states I must choose either the Orgional Medicare Place of the Medicare Advantage Plan- My family will still be in Tricare Prime and I understand I too must select prime for them to get prime

This stuff confused the crap out of me- which Medicare plan better to use with tricare and the va?

    HELP!!!!!!!!!!

    Thanks

  5. If the military places you on TDRL with a 50% rating, does the VA also have to rate you at 50% or

do they have different ratings for the same disability?

    Thanks,

    sbrewer

They are different and subject to the raters opinion- I was medically retired PDRL for depression from the AF at a 50% rating (appealed but it did not change). I then filed my VA claim only using the same medical reports from the PDRL board and the VA rated me at 70%. It seems the military are harder to get a higher rating out of

  6. I read family benifits for spouse and kids can be up to 150-180 percent of the disabled persons payments- Is this in addition to disabled persons payment or included- IE- Disabled payment $1000+$1500 (150%)= $2500, or is it disabled payment $1000 * 150%= $1500? Just curious because I was recently awarded but was told not I have to go in and file a seperate claim for the family and need to get an estimate on their back payments

    Thanks

  7. Got my SSDI approved with a date of Dec 03- I am retired and have Tricare Prime family coverage for wife and kids- Should I look into the Medicare deal- From what I have read I will automatically be enrolled in Medicare but I have not heard anything?

Also, the only thing I got to know I was approved was a vague 4 page letter stating the effictive date and monies due- then a bunch of can statements- Nowhere does it give details on my disability or when I can expect a review- Do they send a more detailed package or is this the normal package they send

    Thanks

  8. I AM FREAKING OUT- I THINK I GOT APPROVED!!!!!!!!!!!! SEEN A EFT IN THE CHECK BOOK TODAY BUT HAVE YET GOTTEN ANY PAPERWORK!!!! THE RETRO AMOUNT SEEMS LESS THAN WHAT I THOUGHT, BUT CAN NOT TELL TILL I GET SOME PAPERWORK!!!

THERE IS A GOD- AFTER GETTING MEDICALAY RETIRED AFTER 24 YOS FOR DEPRESSION 1.5 YEARS AGO- I HAVE RECENTLY GOTTON 100% SCHEDULAR (WHICH GIVES ME FILL CONCURRENT RECEIPT) AND NOW THIS, WHICH I FILED IN DECEMBER 05.

I READ THIS BOARD SEVERAL TIMES A DAY AND SEE THE PROBLEMS MANY OF YOU ARE GOING THROUGH DEALING WITH THE VA AND SS- I HOPE EVERYONES BATTLES ARE WON SOON AND WISH YOU ALL THE BEST OF LUCK- I GUESS MY DEALINGS ARE ONE OF THE RARE ONES THAT DID NOT REQUIRE FIGHTING, NODing, AND SUCH

I AM LOST FOR WORDS - JUST THANKS TO EVERYONE FOR ALL THE INFO AND INPUTS!!!

    :(

  9. I recently got to 100% SC (NONE IU)- I did not get P&T- I went to the my SO rep who stated it would be hard to reduce my rating now and to give it a year, and we will try to get the VA to look at things from a P&T level

I have several 0%, one being sinus problems ( I could not believe it was rated at 0% anyway, half of my 24 year medical records was for sinus problems and even has surgery befor I retired).

I am having sinus surgury again in the morning- still have major problems- I asked the SO rep if I should file for an increase in the sinus area as a buffer to help keep my 100% in the future- he said he would not waste the effort, because it is hard to take me down anyway

So the question is- should I continue to file increase claims in the 0% areas if they get worse eventhough I am currently at 100%, none PT

    Thanks :P

  10. I confused

So if one drinks like a fish everyday because they have major depression, they can file a claim for SC alcohol abuse as a secondary, and if granted, they do not get compensation ( a 0% rating I guess).

And if they are granted SC for alcohol abuse as a secondary, and down the road they have health problems from drinking (liver problems from the abuse), they can also file a claim claiming SC liver problems from alcohol abuse, which was granted as a SC because they are depressed? Would that warrent a rating other that 0% for the liver problems?

I hope I did not confuse anyone, just trying to explain my question
