  1. Major Prompts and Kudo's to all Elders and Contributors of this site! I am an avid reader of this website...reading sometimes 4-5 times a day and learning a lot. I've read the archives, to make sure I don't ask a question that has already been asked. I don't know enough to respond to any of the questions and some of the abreviations are not in the dictionary. However, what I've learned I'm able to pass on to others unfamiliar with the site.

My question is what does it mean when you are scheduled for another c&p? The 1st one was April 6, 2009 (I was there) and the regional office has received the exam results of it. The 2nd one is scheduled for May 27 2009. I will call on Monday , to find out if this was an appointment mistakenly made.

I have filed only one claim and it was for my neck, shoulder, hip (bi) and back. The results from the 1st exam (according to xray report) are as follows:

Shoulder: (comparing a xray from 1993 to 2009 xray)

Degenerative changes noted of the acromion (with osteophytic spurring),coracoid, humeral head, glenohumeral joint inferiorly (?) and cystic changes at site of rotator cuff.

    Hip: Bursitis

Neck (cervical Spine): Degenerative changes with bridging oteophytes of c4-c7. Chronic compression noted c5-c6 estimated 10% for each. Foramen narrowing on the of c5 and c6 right (claimed) and c3 through c5 left (not claimed). Bilateral carotid calcifications.

Back: Claimed but Not examined. Pain in lower back.

This injury occurred when I was in AIT . I fell trying to get on a 2.5 truck with full Bivovac (sp) gear (duffel bag and weapon at 120lbs) on.

I appreciate your time reading and responding to this post. Thanks!

  2. I am so trying to maintain a sense of humor,

I am not sure when I will be able to get back online, I am borrowing a friends computer.

One day as I came home from work, still in my uniform, wife tells me she wants a divorce and calls cops to evict me. So there I was, a week away from my retirement and homeless. I am sleeping in my truck and at friends homes. I go to Ft Knox and retire, do all the paperword, and on my way home, get a call, it is my Dr. The C and P doc called him, told him to get my approval to transfer records. Come to find out, I have two tumors on my spine down in the L something area where it meets the S something. Great story here is that in ten years I will probably be in a wheelchair paralyzed and peeing or worse all over myself. Did I mention she gave the cops my guns?

So after 22 years in the Army, I am finally a veteran, a homeless one.

I guess the only good thing is my friend Mr PTSD hasnt shown up yet, or is Mr PTSD that new dark friend Mr Depression and not Mr Anger?

If anyone could spare a prayer, I would sure appreciate it, as I am kinda goin through a tough time. Sorry to drop all this, but I need to get it out, I am drowning........

I have prayed for you! Hang in there!

  4. Today I had an appointment with a Physical Therapist at the V.A. Hospital in Durham, N.C.. One of my conditions claimed was pain in the greater tronchanter area . My primary reason for keeping this appointment (as stated to therapist after questioned ) was I was tired of managing pain, didn't want to risk another stroke because of living with pain, and wanted to be able to name the condition that caused the pain. She put me through the range of motion test and when I asked when I should let her know when I felt any discomfort she said to me there is a difference between pain and harm. She went on to say she was not trying to cause me any harm but when I said I felt discomfort she said I'm surprised. When I asked her to repeat the task she seemed surprised at the request but I explained to her I had a high tolerance for pain. She then went on to say how she hurt knee in high school, and later had problems with it and that she anticipated having to have total knee replacement one day and then how knee problems for her were in the genes (mother, sister etc.). My question is how much weight will this exam have on the C&P exam and/or my rating?

  5. Good evening,

Today, I received this response from an IRIS inquiry.

    Dear Ms. :

Thank you for your inquiry submitted on March 14, 2009 in regards to your claim.

Our records show that the Winston-Salem Regional Office requested an exam for you as of March 5, 2009. Once the exam is scheduled you will receive a written notification letting you know when and where your exam will be. You should receive your notification letter from the VA Medical Facility soon.

Thank you for contacting us. If you have questions or need additional help with the information in our reply, please respond to this message or see our other contact information below.

    My questions are:

    1. Does it take a long time to schedule the exam?

    2. Will the exam take place at the regional office (Winston Salem N.C.) or at the V.A. hospital in my hometown (Durham N.C.)

    3. When will I get the results (how long) of the exam?

    4. Are there things I need to do or know prior and during exam?

    Thank You!

    Len

  7. Thanks for the good wishes and literature! I took a look at blood pressure readings during my tour of duty (1980-1984). I noted the readings were of a normal range, but had a somewhat interesting pattern. My medical Dr. prior to service told me I would never have to worry about high blood pressure...maybe he was looking at a crystal ball... Anyways I take 5 different types of blood pressure medicine. I think my problem with anxiety maybe the culprtit that elevates the pressure.

    Thanks again!

  8. This is a great site and have enjoyed reading all of the post!

I come to you from Durham N.C. While in AIT (Fort McClellan, Ala.) I fell from a duece and a half in full bivovac gear on my right side. It is documented in my army medical records that my back was injured However, the specifics were left out ie. how the injury came about. To make a long story short my records only show that I injured my the lumbar and thoracic (sp) part of my back. At least 8-10 visits about my back were documented in my medical records during my 4 year tour.

Several years later, I started to have shoulder and hip pain. X-rays revealed I had a torn right rotator cuff. My civilian Dr. (ortho)informed me the pain in my right hip was coming from the greater trochanter (sp) area.

To complicate matters I had a stroke on April 2007 that hit my right side of my body hard. I am now able to walk after 4 months of physical therapy. However, it has made muscle spasms and pain worse if I walk more than 50 ft. and I now have a gait disturbance.

I filed for V.A. benefits in Aug. 2008 and they are in the process of scheduling my examination. I am anxious about the exam but somewhat relieved that I'm over the hump (I believe).

Are there additional words (outside of the ones already posted) of wisdom out there? Do you think they will see a connection between the injury to my back and shoulder and hip?

Thanks for all you do to help others!
