  1. Can anybody tell me how the VA considers giving you a rating

upon your PTSD claim. And how they attach a percentage for

that you have for PTSD ?

It is based upon your GAF score or from you inability to work or both.

Any information will be helpful to how they come up with your rating

    percentage an for what percent? ? ? ? ? ?

    Thank you

  2. Thank You for the reply

Its nice to read the ideas of the process along the way,

and to know the process. At least i dont worry about 3 to 5 years.

I have never worried about what "stage" it is in, I liked it better when they just said it is at the ratings team, because basically the VARO doesn't know what is happening with it, they have a good idea where the file is sitting whose work area, they have to gather all the evidence, decide if the issue is a SC problem is the evidence there to prove it, set up a C&P exam then they rate it, it has to be approved and the statement of the case and the decision have to be written up the VA does NOT have time limits on their actions it may get done in 6 months and it may not get done in 14 months we have time limits in which to file Form 9s, add new evidence file NODs etc, they have none they do it when they do it normally you get an initial decision in 6 months if you are lucky NODs and appeals any where from 1 -3 years but does it spend 2 weeks in this department and 3 weeks in this area and 4 weeks here and 2 weeks in C&P and 3 weeks in rating and 2 weeks in approvals ( I have this term or "signatures" ) to many people assume they are then getting some type of award even denials have to be approved are you looking for a flow chart? on whats supposed to happen?
  3. HiI recieved a call from SSA and was told my claim was being approved and will be given in California, $945.00 until age 62. I was also notified and in less than 2 weeks my claim has been submitted, for being homeless. I received a letter dated March 2nd, 2010 that Im awaiting Compensioin and they were sorry it was taking so long.

    My questions is

If they have it now for compension, what are the next steps for the VA claim.

Last does my SSI claim help if I get them papers that I've been awarded SSI.

I can't work and they gave me SSI will my SSI claim help assist my claim to

win my case for the VA, or not help and make it more confusing for the

VA to award me. I submitted for

    100% SC for :

    PTSD

    Tinnitus

    Bilateral Hearing Loss

Degenerative Disc Disease C-Spine Root damage

    Mingraine Headaches

    Hypertension

    Malaria

No exit exam from USMC when left from Military

Awaiting reply from VA, They have all medical records related to all claims from doctors and hospitals and MRI, x-ray and test reports.

Does any body have or can anyone advise me the next step left before i hear from them. Last it was expressed Note: PLEASE EXPIDETE HOMELESS VETERAN

Dated February 25th, 2010 and yesterday the letter said

Your claim is in COMPENSION AND WAITNG REPLY .

Has your address changed if so please contact our office on Wilshire Blvd LA.

What is the VA next step after Compensation is there a letter sent to me after they are done here.

Thanks for any comments from anybody about next step to be or how long it will now take ? ? If im declined for 100% SC will or could they give mand a non serivce connections like 70% and than would I be able to still get 100% disability or not in the future if I ever got any other illness? ? ?

    Ron B) :)

    ReconRon,

Having your buddy letters and a CAR on your DD214

does not AT ALL prohibit you from needing a NEXUS letter/opinion.

What having a CAR on your DD214 and your buddy letters will do

is, allow the VBA to not have to go through the step of

verifying your stressor during the claims development process.

For PTSD, you will still need a current Diagnosis and a NEXUS

from a MH doctor stating your PTSD is in fact related to active duty.

Heck someone vets can go through active duty,or military combat and be

    just fine.

Twenty years after active duty they could experience a traumatic life

threatening event, such as a car crash or personal assault and have PTSD

    as a result of this.

    Let's go a step further.

The vet files a claim with VBA for PTSD and they have a CIB, CAR on thier DD214 - so automatically that concedes a stressor on active duty

    BUT

    the MH doctor states,

"Veterans claim for PTSD is more/as likely as not related to the car crash/personal assault, experienced as a civilian.

The veteran relates dreams/nightmares related to the car crash/personal assault.

These dreams/nightmares do not allow the veteran to get acceptable amounts of sleep.

The veteran has given up his/her priviledge of having a drivers license as he/she feels guilt related to the car crash, and now rely's totally on public transportation.

The veteran is RX'd XXX for anxiety related to these events and XXX to aid in

    acceptable levels of sleep.

The veteran does not respond well and is fearful of authority figures

as he was arrested and hand-cuffed due to this car crash.

The veteran was admitted to XXX VAMC after a suicide attempt

related to his/her feelings of guilt related to this car crash.

The veteran exhibits poor eye contact and speech is with a flattened

affect, more likely than not as a result of guilt and shame due to this car crash.

The veteran relates he/she has secondary agoraphobia and rarely leaves

home due to the fearfullness of another personal assault.

The veteran has no friends and distressed relationships with family

members as they are non-supportive of the veterans PTSD symptoms, as they

feel the veteran brought these problems onto him/her - self.

The VBA claim above for PTSD would surely be denied as the

MH doctor totally related the vets PTSD (NEXUS)to a civilian cause.

I hope the above explains to you exactly why -

you still need a NEXUS from a MH doctor.

    jmho,

    carlie

  8. Much Thanks

    Yes they are UNCLASSFIED NOW

    Nobody said they were classfied.

what do you go to everybody threat and read

and reply back something you read WRONG ? ? ?

    Classified, not after 40 years......

Look at title 18 of US Code 30 year time limit...... do a FOI to get thatstuff...

  10. Thanks Berta

    Understood.

I have been told i dont need and NEXUS letter as my 3 letters from other partol memembers help support my claim. Yes i have the Combat Action Ribbon

on my DD-214. As far as some of the other USMC an any other Navy , Army or anybody goes. YES your partly correct.

Medics HM3 are in the and work with the Marine Corps, but not on every patrol.

Again NOT ON EVERY PATROL were they, not always in smaller patrols up to 4 men.

Larger GRUNT Patrols 25 to 50 men maybe yeah 2 or 3 HM3 were with USMC patrol.

US USMC TEAM MEMBER said medic weather you guys except it or not its not my probelm if you dont like it.. my team was my team memeber. if you still have a probelms maybe your trust it with suppiorting letter and PROOF of other men on my team.

    What i want to know it>>! ! ! !

What does that have to do with your answering my questions and not changiing the subject??

answer the questions ask if you know the answer great.. """" IF YOU NOT 100% YOU KNOW WHAT YOUR TALKING ABOUT IF YOU WERENT ON MY TEAMS ON PATROL hwo can you know anything about this ???

please explain would you ???? than maybe my paperwork that was classfied with a lie by out Lt. on patrol.

But I just cant imagine anybody making a comment if they werent even there ? ? ? ? ?

    Thanks Berta for your comments

and my reply for all other not sure...maybe you need more research about what your talking about and not here say ! ! ! ! !

if you not sure i would be glad to provide you with the website and info to see for yourself.

    I too have a question-

my husband was USMC Vietnam 1965-1966- combat-

USMC didnt award the CAR for many years. When did you receive this award?

    My husband was 100 % P & T for PTSD.

The CAR or lack of it on his DD 214 (as the USMC didnt have this badge/ribbon when he served) had absolutely nothing to do with his PTSD SC rating.

The fact that he had multiple verified combat stressors had nothing to do with his 100% award.

His GAf was 34 and then 26.That really had nothing to do with his award.

TDIU or 100% is awarded solely due to medical evidence that your PTSD has rendered you unemployable due to SC PTSD and/or any other SC disabilities.

  11. Hello Pete

I applied for SSI and today I called to get my status and she said she was sending the final reports to the SSA doctors and it would be to long if the doctor is not to backed up. she said i will have and answer by March 10th or so. and if its declined I have the reconsiderations to continue with. I cant never work any more because of the the DDD Moderate Severe Nerve Root Damage. So I pray our Lord blesses me and I get a good reply back.

Yesterday I submitted all document to the VA in Los Angeles and to the DAV here on the 5th floor. Talked with a VA VSO and tomorrow I have a few more papers to sign and submit after lunch and than its a waiting game.

I have my 2 super great VA doctors working very good for me after i brought them my outside records of the ENT and DDD MRI and all reports. They said looks very good the reprots are 90 day old an current.

I understand your comments about the GAF scores, but I have a very very good Psy who said he can help me with my nexus letter and the MD who will help me also. So I have a very above average . . . . so I wait to this next year and wait. I feel good about everything and I did my home work very much ! I picked my VA doctors very very good. they are willing to work much for me..... Thanks..Bless You ..

    Ron:

Do you get Social Security Disability or do you still work? Don't put to much into GAF scores as they are only a small part of what it takes the VA to make a decision.

    Good Luck

  12. Bonzai

Thank you and understood your facts.

yes I wa just wondering if the Bi Polar makes the PTSD

stronger as having 1 mental claim. ? ? As far

as a GAf score by the time the VA rating people get to my case

I will have at least 2 or 3 more, than plus what I have now also.

Yes, My VA medical doctor with outside doctor papers work could

and will make the Nexus letter for the DDD case.

But the PTSD I will have no probelm getting it's just at what percentage is all

from My outside doctors an my VA Medical Doctor nexus and letters later.

Yes I have some what a better idea now about all

    Bless You

    Recon Ron

If I understand your original questions, you are wondering what you would be awarded for PTSD and Bi-Polar with GAF scores around 40.

You can not be awarded for both PTSD and Bi-Polar, either one or the other. A GAF score is just a snapshot in time, so having multiple GAF scores is better than having just one or two in your files.

You talk about having stressors, so those could be used for PTSD but not Bi-Polar; which IMHO would be extremely difficult for you to get Service-Connected now. You would also have to have a nexus for your DDD.

There is a whole lot more than a nexus and GAF scores that go into how a decision is made regarding awarding a rating and a Service-Connected disability to someone. With the information given, it is impossible to even hazard a guess, because you are assuming that SC will be given automatically. Sad to say, it doesn't work that way at all...

  13. First ! ! ! Were you in a Recon Unit YES or NO ? Were you with every team on patrol that had or didnt have a HM3 corpsman YES or NO ? ?

Next the guys on my team didnt say to me a corpsman up. We were A USMC recon team not Navy people. Yes some teams had HM3 and I have records and missions to prove it. But I also have my patrols with out HM3 corpsman also and thats where I came in as a Company AID Man Crossed trainned by Navy Doctors

while in Da Nang. So unless you have some proof I wasnt and medic as a our team members called each other ? ? How can you know this ? ? ? Now unclassified mission patrols exclued many HM3 from our patrols. Thank you for your time. But unless you were there how can or do you have ANY right to speak if you didnt know or weren't there is what I can't figure out.

Now can anybody answer the question I asked in stead of some of you who make other comment not necessary to answer the question.

Again please read and reply if it applies to you .

Excuse my comments but you know I dont knock other people military tours, I wont stand for other that wasnt there been there done that also.

    Thanks

    Recon Ron.

In the future peole make sure you have 100% your comments no HERESAY, if you dont know dont guess. If you know than give you best CORRECT answer...REMEMBER THIS . . . Wrong information is worse than a LIE !

SO if you really dont know dont speak it..

    Ron

  14. Listen I dont care what you say about USMC Marines, you werent there so kiss off.

And i have pqaeprwrok to make you look like a idoit. YES patrol mission where there were not no HM3 corpsman becasue there werent any. you must be a NAVY Dude . if it wasnt for the Marines to cover your but or they wouldnt be here.

Just answer the questions I dont need your off the walk GUESSTMATIONS

My MOS is 8651 AN 0311 AND i WAS CROSSES TRAINNED IN Da Nang in a company aid man school. I still saved lives and did my job quite well in a matter of fact . saved many life wheather you liked it or not.

But any way I have nothing to or need to prove to you and my miltiary records will state my case as will my DD-214 and what it said on it also.

SO what ever you say only Navy dudes have thhis type of attitude NOT MARINES and anyway..I thought we faught for the same side or are you one of them ? ? ?

If you have a CAR and was a medic with PTSD and Bi Ploar disorder

and if you seeking on going PTSD classes and help what is the normal

you will be rated for. 50% , 70% if you have the CAR ? ?

I have 2 doctors PSY GAF scores near the same VA Doctor says 39 over the

months and outside privte psycharitrist say 38 to 42 on the GAF score, both

the same and both with Bi polar, any body have a guess about what % ? ?

Disease in my Cervic C-spine C-1 thru C-7 with Moderate Severe Root Damage

to the spine, can anybody give me and ideas about the rating I should get from this.

I cant work and havenet for the last 4 years, homeless and 60 years old, no nothing

    Am I guessing about

PTSD 70 % with a secondary, Bi Polar Disorder

    Tinnitus 10%

    DDD 30%

    Total 90%

If I cant work and get an 70% can I try for IU at 70% to get 100% total

Disability since i can work, i also waiting SSI and SSDI in future but not together.....

Could this be so so correct I have a CAR and was a medic in the

    service so have good stressors

I have 10% Malaria now SC

I am a counselor at a Vet Center in the Northeast. We specialize in PTSD counseling and generally offer more services than our counterparts in other areas of the US. We provide individual, group, couples, family, bereavment, benefits, and MST, TBI and substance abuse counseling. We do outreach and participate in pre and post deployment mental health screenings. We are part of the VA but run seperately and most of us are veterans. These places have been around since 1979!!!! Let's thank the Viet Nam Vets for starting such a wonderful resource. All combat veterans are entitiled to services as well as their family members.

US network uncovers 'suicide epidemic' among US veterans.

NEW YORK (AFP) — The US military is experiencing a "suicide epidemic" with veterans killing themselves at the rate of 120 a week, according to an investigation by US television network CBS.

At least 6,256 US veterans committed suicide in 2005 -- an average of 17 a day -- the network reported, with veterans overall more than twice as likely to take their own lives as the rest of the general population.

While the suicide rate among the general population was 8.9 per 100,000, the level among veterans was between 18.7 and 20.8 per 100,000. That figure rose to 22.9 to 31.9 suicides per 100,000 among veterans aged 20 to 24 -- almost four times the non-veteran average for the age group. "Those numbers clearly show an epidemic of mental health problems," CBS quoted veterans' rights advocate Paul Sullivan as saying. CBS quoted the father of a 23-year-old soldier who shot himself in 2005 as saying the military did not want the true scale of the problem to be known. "Nobody wants to tally it up in the form of a government total," Mike Bowman said. "They don't want the true numbers of casualties to really be known." There are 25 million veterans in the United States, 1.6 million of whom served in Afghanistan and Iraq, according to CBS. "Not everyone comes home from the war wounded, but the bottom line is nobody comes home unchanged," Paul Rieckhoff, a former Marine and founder of Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans for America told the network. CBS said it was the first time that a nationwide count of veteran suicides had been conducted. The tally was reached by collating suicide data from individual states for both veterans and the general population from 1995. The Department of Veterans Affairs spends some three billion dollars a year on mental health services, according to CBS. Since has there been and increase to the mid 2005 era and the VA isnt tracking any of these issues about this.......
