  1. If you get SSA -they most surely might have those records too- Hello Berta, This claim is for my 35 year old son, No he was denied for SSA Another thought- sorry if you already might have answered this elsewhere- Have you attempted to find your unit or your CO or anyone who could give you a buddy statement that witnessed the fact that you were hospitalized? No, Until just recently i didn't have a Unit to search for , My son also suffers from Memory loss [ Neurological effects of Jet Fuel Exposure] and can't remember any of those he served with. Now that i know what Unit he served maybe i can find someone who might remember him. I have found lots of Ship websites on the net and know of vets who did get buddy statements through accessing their units- Question?? Do these ship websites give the names of those who served on the ship in any given year?? Is there any chance of finding someone he served with?? Thanks, Jessie
  2. Thanks Macool, I'll give it a try and see what happens. Jessie
  3. Thanks Frosty for your comment. I know that my son did have the 2 back injuries while in the Navy, I was sent only one. I wonder if the second one stayed with the ship he was on?? And went back to the base in Norfolk?? Jessie
  4. I sent an Freedom of Imformation request to receive a copy of my sons SMR. Finally received them after about 5 months. Some of the records are missing!!! He had a head injury and back injury at the same time onboard a ship, The USS HAWES which is normally stationed out of Norfolk, VA This record is missing!! [ he was never in Norfolk, But was stationed in Mayport, FL] He also was in the Hospital for surgery At the Naval Air Station in Jacksonville Fl. The only thing in the records about this is that he went to surgery and was returned to the recovery room in good condition. I really needed all that record that contained all his pre-surgical testing like labs and the nurses notes about his recovery. Would anybody know where i would find these records?? Thanks, Jessie
  5. Thanks Magoo; I,m in it for the long haul. I told the VA that i'm not going to go away. My son is only 35 years old and has had a very rare and aggressive Cancer of the Appendix [in remission at this time]and a bone marrow disorder of which there is no cure for all because of his Military Service [ this is conformed by his Hem/Onc]. Jessie
  6. Thanks Cowgirl: I do plan to attend his C&P, We have long gotten over being embarrassed. I was his nurse and care giver during and following his surguries for Cancer and his back. And he also has no short term memory recall due to his exposure to Jet Fuel and other chemicals while in the service. Jessie
  7. Thanks, Vike 17 On his enlistment Medical Exam the only abnormal listed is something with his feet. The spine and other Musculoskeletal are checked Normal. And Acceptable is circuled. Jessie
  8. Thanks Carlie: This is going to take alot of reading!! Jessie
  9. Yes, This is a first Claim: As far as a early history, This statement of a " Contusion, to the low back during a foot ball game " is the first i have heard of it. I don't remember him having any complaints of back discomfort after a game. He did roll backwards off a horse at a very young age [ about 3 years old i think], But no lasting problems that we were aware of!! Jessie
  10. My son has filed a claim with the VA for Chronic back pain that progressed to back surgury with fusions at the L4-L5, L5- S1 levels with internal hardware. While in the service he injuries his back twice. I just received [sOME] of his MSR which has only one of theses injuries in them. This one has where he was taken from the hanger by ambulance to the base hospital where he was diagnosed with " Acute Lumbar strain/spasm with Myospasm. An Xray was taken of L5 of the spine. In the notes it is writen that " Pt has history of back injury" "Low back contusion without HNP 3 years ago in a football game" [ this was in highschool] The Xray shows a ? L5-S1 narrowing space possibly from an old injury. Is this going to hurt his claim for Chronic Back Pain and denie his claim?? Thanks in advance for your reply.
  11. Hello, Just wanted to see if anybody could answer the question of what kind of rating might be applied to Spinal Fusion at 2 levels, [ L4-L5 & L5-S1] . Thanks,
  12. Thanks Wings!! I book marked this in case i need it. Thanks again!!
  13. Berta Thanks for your reply!! BTW, This is for my son's claim that i am working for him, Since he can't do it himself. I have givin my own statement since who would know the changes best than his own mother!! But i was thinking about others he was in contact with before and after his service time. If they would pull much weight, You answered that well and i will spend more time now trying to contact some of his old fiends and classmates to whom he still has connections with, Maybe they will help me out here. Also, My son has since he returned from the service has had many problems ESP. with Memory. He gets so flustrated that he can't remember even the first names of those who he served with [ except one who lives a few miles away] I can question him and on some days might make some progress, But other days i can get nowhere and when he gets upset because he can't remember i just give it a rest. How do i go about finding others who served with him?? I could ask the other guy who lives only a few miles away, But he has a really bad drinking problem and i have yet to catch him on a GOOD DAY!! At a Good time, no matter how early in the day i contact him.
  14. Hello: Has anybody used a Third Party Witness Statement?? Are They worth the Effort to get?? How about Family and Friend Statements, Do the VA ever consider them?? Thanks: Jessie Oh, One more thing!! What is the Warning thingy?? Have i done a boo boo??
  15. Allanopie: Thanks, I almost missed the post!! Very interesting material!! Jessie
  16. John i wouldn't have a clue about this, Maybe Hoppy or Allanopie could answer???
  17. Hi Hoppy: Welcome Back!! I don't know how much higher i can go here!! He is the Chief of Staff at the Cancer Center. Jessie
  18. Hello Allanopie: Thank you very much: I look forward to reading your research Documents! I don't know if i have mentioned before but not only does my son have this Bone Marrow Disorder Polycythemia Vera which there is no Cure, He was diagnosed at the same time March of 2002 with a very rare Cancer. That is when i started researching because i wanted to know why a 31 year old young man would have these two very rare conditions and what caused them. I somehow knew all along, But never thought i'd ever get a Dr to say so!!! Thanks again Jessie
  19. Hello Hoppy, Sorry to be so long!!! We have been down south for vacation and a family reunion, My hubby, My dog and myself. Have been trying to get caught up with everything since. While i was gone, My son forgot his appointment with his Hemotologist and i had to call an make another for today., Not knowing if we would get to see the Dr today i forgot the Nexus Letter, Guess what ?? we did actually see the DR himself !! So thought i would just test the waters with a few questions. I told the DR about finding my son's exit exam from the Navy for 1992 and that his HCT level at that time of discharge was 53 point something and ask if my son had this Polycythemia Vera at that time, His answer was yes, So i ask what his thoughts were about the jet fuel causing this condition and again his answer was yes!! He said that the jet fuels fumes and the exshust and other people smoking around him did cause the polycythemia Vera. My son couldn't believe his ears and his mouth dropped open to actually hear him say that the jet fuel is the cause of his condition. I wonder if he will be just as easy when i ask if he will write the nexus letter!!! Well, I guess i'll have to wait for that answer!!
