My son is service connected 70%. several months ago he applied for Voc Rehab but was told by his counselor that if he wasn't let go by his last employer for his health reasons [ Back condition with disk fusion 2 levels and Polycythemia Vera, A blood Cancer] then he couldn't get Voc Rehab!!
I just spent the last week with him and my grandson there in SC and i was horrified about the way he looks physically.
He was laided off from his job in December right before Christmas and after the first of the year the company he worked for folded and went out of business. He has been getting by with trying to work at a day labor job but it is physically draining him.
Did the counselor tell him correctly??
I need to find a way to help him. He has an appointment coming up for his monthly blood draw at the VA and he said he simply can't go because if he misses one day on the day labor ticket he is out of work until they again have an opening on the ticket. If he dosen't get his blood drawn then his blood level gets to high.
Any suggestions??
Thanks,
Jessie

Did your decision say you were awarded Chapter 35 benefits? That means ChampVA and means if you have insurance you can get a waiver of the premium. Also educational benefits for dependents. The way things are now ChampVA is solid gold.
Yes, john999:
The award encluded Chapter 35 benefits:

Hello All:
I just recieved the C&P results of the exam my husband had for IU.
I believe they are favorable, But would like your commits:
Opinion: Of the examiner:> In my medical opinion this veteran is unable to preform either phyical or sedentary work in his present condition due to the combined effects of three conditions: Heart Disease, Sleep Apnea, PTSD.
Rationale: The veterans current cardiac status is enough to preclude phyical work including DOT driving but not a sedentary job. However, his persistent somulence from osa is such that he would be unable to maintain an acceptable degree of wakefulness for sedentary work. Finally his ptsd seems to be clinically worsening according to the BH notes and the veteran. This in turn has increased his cardiac symptom and labile hypertension. Anything more than limited human interaction raises his anxiety and stress. He was able to accommodates this for years by working as a long haul truck driver. This is no longer an option.
Other Comment: The job the veteran could do would feature: sedentary, variable hours and days, low stress enviroment, unlimited unscheduled periodic naps, minimal human contact, does not involve driving, operating hazardous machines or tools.

Congratulations! It's good to know the VA inferred TDIU from the record. You still have time to get any additional evidence of unemployability to the AOJ (RO, BVA) ... Social Security statements, medical opinions, psyche opinions, etc. Get after that TDIU claim!! Good on you and your vet. ~Wings
Hello Wings and thank you!!
In one of the reports from the C&P Examiner for the PTSD it says " While he is currently not employed, These Symptoms would likely have some impact on his ability to maintain gainful employment and to work well with others"
Wouldn't this be enought evidence? Do i need to point that out to them???
He ihasn't worked since March and has filed for SSDI of which the lady at the SS Office was pretty certain he would be approved.

Where did you request your copy of the C&P from, and how long did it take to get the copy??
Hello Stretch:
We requested the copy of the C&P from the Columbia Mo VAMC.
The first part of the C&P was done on March 3 and the second part was done for the heart on March 16th followed by and echogram on the 25th of march.
We were told that as soon as the report was finished we would be sent the copy. It was mailed out of Columbia on the 7th of April and we got it on the 8th.

Question About Voc Rehab
in VA Disability Claims Research
Posted
Thanks pr:
So they are required to offer him Voc Rehab no matter what his employment status is. I don't want to tell him wrong and get his hopes up again to get the rug pulled out from under him again.
