  1. My son had his C&P today for his NOD for his lower back. We filed a NOD last November due to an the last Examiner failing to do a ROM testing at all let alone with the goniometer and not giving a true picture of his disability. A lot of false statements.

To refresh my son had back surgery for 2 herniated disk with a large chunk of the disk had embedded into the L5-S1 nerve. He has a 2 level Fusion with stabilitation rods and screws and has Ankylosis of the spine fixed in a netural position and continued Radicular pain.

For this was was givin a 10& rating.

I think he failed the ROM testing today because he couldn't bend forward from the waist at all, Only bending was from the chest forward. He also could turn side to side and when he tried to bend backwards he fell and the examiner catch him before he hit the ground. I think the examiner felt there was no need to finish because he told my son, Oh, That's not good.

So i wonder how the rater will rate him now??

  2. Pete, Berta and Purple:

    Thanks for your replies:

The VA Nurse just called me back and took down all my concerns and she will pass them on the the Dr. She said if i haven't heard back from her by Friday to call her back.

I called my husband and told him he needs to go on to the ER as i am remembering the results from about 5 years ago during one of his previous testing done for his heart problem. While there on that visit he had just had a stress test done early that day and was seeing the Dr that afternoon and of course she said she didn't have the results back yet, But didn't think there was a problem and sent him on his way. She called a couple hours later frantic with the results and telling him to get to the ER as he had 2 cloged arteries. We went to the local ER not the VA and he had emergency surgery that evening with a stent placement. He later had a heart Attack 2 months later and another stent placement.

So no i don't believe we will wait on this. I'll just fight with the insurance company it it become a problem.

    Thanks,

    Jessie

  3. Hello:

I need to know how often a Urinalysis is given to a vet as part of their routine exam??

A couple weeks ago my husband had a C&P exam done for residuals of a gun shot wound to his leg while in Vietnam. After the exam we went down to medical records and requested not only the copy of the C&P report but all his treatment records for the last 4-5 years.

Right after this C&P exam he had his usual routine exam the next week. A urinalysis was done at this time, The results were not good and they called him in yesterday for a followup urinalysis which was worse than the first one. His CBC report shows he also has a low RBC. The Dr then told him they would make an appointment with a Uro Dr as soon as possible since we might be looking at cancer here since he was complaining of pain in the kidney area without signs of infection and the results of 2 very nasty reports. [ has been complaining of this pain and in his left hip for at least 6-9 months].And he has lost 5 lbs in the last week.

Not anywhere in the last 4-5 years of records is there a Urinalysis report.!!

I called this morning to see if they were working on this appointment with the Uro Dr since the pain is much worse. The lady was reading to me what was on the computer screen and said my husband was to let THEM know when he was ready for the consultation!!! Which was not true!! They were to make the call to the URO yesterday!!! I told her NO!!! that not the case and i needed to get him an appointment ASAP.

I'm waiting now for the Nurse or Dr to call me back with an appointment!!

I tried to make an appointment with the Uro Department at out local Univerity Hospital which is across the street from the VAMC and got some run around about our insurance might be a problem later on if we don't wait on the Va to get a referral done. WHAT!!!

Please someone tell me how i need to handle this.

  4. Very sad news Jessie-

I guess we really have to consider death more as change than as loss---your brother's spirit will always last with you and your family. He is in Peace -I will say prayers for you all Jessie-and prayers do give us Great comfort.

    Thank You Berta:

I know my Brother, Bless his heart is at peace today, We haven't lost him forever he will be waiting to greet each one of us as we make to the doors of Heaven.

    Jessie

  5. I am deeply sorry for your loss...may God grant to you the mercy and grace you need during this time of sorrow...and may you be comforted with only the proud and joyful memories...

    Thank You Nic:

I have been blessed with a lot of Proud and Joyful Memories. We all do and i'm sure each one of us are taking Comfort right now from those memories. His Daughter call this morning and ask us to write a few of our favorite memories for the funeral service. We have a lot to share.

    Thank You Jessie

  6. Dear Jessie:

I am sorry that you lost your brother but thankful that so many have rallied to do him and your family honor. There is not really much that I can say but you fought like a Tiger to help him and he at least was treated with dignity and respect. No Veteran who goes to the VA could ask for more.

As the days pass I will continue to pray for him and your family for grace to deal with all that comes from a loss like this.

God Bless You and Keep You

    Pete

    Thanks Pete!!

I am thankfull for the friends i have here at hadit and all who have rallied to honor him. You know as i sat in his room at the hospital and watched him labor so hard to get that next breath why he just didn't give in and go to God, But i think he was waiting for the arrival of my younger Brother to get here. As my Younger Brother got to the Hospital at 3pm yesterday and took my Brother's hand in his and said his tearful good bye my dieing Brother's hand tighten briefly and he took his last breath it was awsome to watch him finally relax after 4 days of battle and go so peaceful then.

Another thing i want to say is i'm thankful the local VA here had the Hospice Unit. He recieved the most careing and compassion from this great group of Dr's and Nurses and he was allowed to die with dignity and respect.

The Hospice Staff was amazed that he has a large family who stayed everyday and night with him and he was never alone, Myself and my sister's and both his daughter's never left the hospital for the last 4 days. The hospice made sure that my brother got the care he needed but also his family.

One of the Nurses told us they had never had such a large group to stay with any Veteran, Most Veterans come and most don't even have visitors. So i'm going to go back to the Hospice and adopt a Veteran and i am going to ask the rest of family to do the same. We have a large Family so there should be enought of us alone so that each Veteran There without family close by would have someone to visit them.

I am thankful to all who ahve left condolences and Prayers. You are a Great group to call Family.

  7. Jessie,

You have the deepest sympathy from our family. May Our God of all grace and mercy be with you and your family during this difficult time. May I lead us all in a prayer of comfort? "Holy God, our Heavenly Father, we come to You in the name of, and through the blood of Our Lord Jesus Christ. Father, I pray that you provide the presence of Your Holy Spirit in the family of our brother in arms. Father you alone know the hearts of all men, you have made us in Your image and we are yours. Eternity is yours O Lord, thank you for the ability to become your children. Father only your grace, mercy and peace can speak to our spirits at this time. You alone are God and their is none other. It is to You that we can trust for comfort at this time, please grant Father, that peace which You have provided on the cross to this family. I pray in the name of Our Lord Jesus". Others may pray in another way, but Jessie this is the way I have been lead to pray for you. Others may need this prayer for their guidance in a prayer life.

    Blessings,

    Rev. Rich

    Thank You Rev. Rich

For the beautiful Prayer, I cryed as i was reading it and i take it to heart. I take comfort in knowing my beloved Brother is at home with God. My Brother was with God long before he took his last breath and we as the family each took a few mins alone with our Brother, Father and son on Saturady just before he slipped into the coma to say our good bye's telling him how much he was loved and will be missed and that it was ok to go with God. He faught an awsome battle until the end.

He spent time here with me and my husband every summer fishing in our lake, I told him the first fish i catch this spring i will give it his name say a prayer and tag it then release it as i releasted him to go forward and follow the light God was providing him to guide him home.

Last night as i drove home i stopped and bought a single rose and went out to the lake and threw it into the lake at his favorite place to sit next to the shade tree. I will make sure that anyone who catches his fish will also releast it back into the water with Prayer.

    Thank You!!

    Jessie

  8. Hello:

Thought i would let everyone know that my Brother died today after a long battle with cancer. He has been undergoing Chemo since August for Stage 4 Liver Cancer. [ he had Colon Cancer 27 years ago and then lung cancer 2 years ago and his last cancer was diagnosed in August 2007] He had been doing better we thought until he fell last Thursday hitting his head. At the hospital CT scan reveled that the cancer has invaded his brain and though out his entire body. His Chemo was discontinued and he went in a coma Saturday. He faught a real battle and was so brave until the end. He gained many friends at the local VA here in Columbia Mo through out his illness and each person he had come in contact with the last few months with the VA [ Dr's and Nurses both] came to visit when they learned he was in the hospital and checked in with us everyday to see how he was doing. I can say that his last few days and hours were filled with compassions from all his nurses and Dr's and was treated very respectfully through it all, They have become great friends with the family who needed them at this time. I was impressed!!!

  9. we had the same problem with two Chapter 35 school checks.. lost or i should say stolen ,,, there is a form you need to fill out to send to treasury but they do not give out the form you have to go GET it i went to the VA in Manila Philippines and got the form and its better you bring the student as they wanted my daughter to sign something before they would even give the form .. i guess to compare handwriting in case the check shows up as cashed... We sent the form in 30 days ago and we are still waiting.. the form was very short and asked the person who the checks are written to for a handwriting sample.. hope this helps

    Thanks Robert!!

I'll send my son to the closest Office near him to get the form. I am working long distance here. He is in another state and has left his VA claims here in my state after he left until he could get his decision on the last claim he filed. The decision has been made and one of the missing checks was for the retro payment.

We are trying to avoid anymore confusion until this is resolved.

  10. Use the online forum at www.va.gov. They normally answer your questions correctly it seems.

    Go here:

    https://iris.va.gov/scripts/iris.cfg/php.ex...r/cci/ask_1.php

further I would contact my local congressional representative. Tell them this is causing a great deal of financial hardship... etc.

    Thanks six:

I sent this to iris on Friday. Waiting for the reply but still making the phone calls. Will contact the Congressional office tomorrow to see if they can help.

  11. Hello:

We are haveing quite a problem here and nobody with the Va 1-800 number can answer or offer any help so far.

My son checks have been lost or missing now since the first of Feb [ 2 checks now and the retro check] And today his check didn't arrive again.

Va said they sent them out on the first of Feb to this [ my address] we have called even to Austin Tx. They couldn't tell us anything either. We have checked to make sure they have the correct address and Zip. All is correct.

The Va was surposed to have put a tracer on this over a week ago. They even gave us a confirmation # for the Tracer. Found out today no tracer has been put on the missing checks.

We keep getting the run around from everyone at the VA we have contacted. I'm beginning to wonder if they have even mailed them out .

The post office told us to call the Department of the Treasury, Financial Management Office in Philadelphia. So we called the Va 800 # again and ask for that Number and they said they don't have it.

I'm ready to pull my hair out!! Does anyone have the number in Philly??

    Anyone with any suggestions???

    Thanks, Jessie

  12. Betrayed:

My son is having the same problem. Received the decision letter on the 28th of Jan. Called the 800 Number when his check from his previous decision didn't show up on the first of the month. They said 2 checks regular check and the retro check were mailed out on the first.

Well here it is the 22 of Feb and no checks yets. Called the 800 # again Checks were still said mailed out on the first.

Called the 800 # again last week and they said they put a tracer on the checks.

Called them again today and guess what. A tracer wasn't put on the checks a week ago as they said.

Today after talking to one of the supervisors they gave up a Confirmation # on the tracer that was put in place today.

Guess we will continue to wait!!

  13. Jessie,

I find it honorable that you are assisting your brother. I am sure he is grateful and proud to have you as a brother.

My only advice is to go full court press and keep your brother in good spiirits and don't give him to much of the VA BS news.

    Thanks,jecsb4:

Thank you for your kind words!! And the advice. Yes, I do believe i will forge ahead and Nod his decision.

  14. Ask for a Hearing it will help to have someone who knows present the claim and ask questions of the dumbass VARO?

    Thanks, Pete53:

I can't believe they denied him!!! His condition is so bad now i don't know how long he will hold in. The first round of Chemo did nothing. He is on another Chemo now. It's no cure, But is just giving him some time!!

Do i make this request of a hearing through his SO?? He really hasn't been of any help and has gotten rather smart and short with my mother a couple times!! I'm thinking buddy you really don't want to p___ her off she is a tough old bird and make you wish she had just went ahead and kicked your butt by the time she gets through with the lip service.
