Son Starting College

We are filling out the VA form Form 22-5490 for our son to request the educational assistance for DEA Educational Benefits. (Chapter 35 educational).

Once the form is mailed -does anyone know how long before we hear back?

Does VA send a letter of eligibility, that he takes to the school?

He is scheduled to start college in August.

Also, we have read in a couple of different places that it may be best to defer getting the educational benefits until later, but it doesn't explain why it would be better, does anyone have any imput?

Tt looks like the monthly benefit is $860.00 for full time school. Is this correct? Sorry for so many questions. I trust in the folks at Hadit more than the VA counselors.

Jay-I am sure glad that you did mention all this here- you are SO RIGHT!

AMU transferred all of my credits (30) except 6- or 9 more towards degree but as you said many colleges dont do that-

It pays to look at an internet college's home page to make sure they are fully accredited regionally-which is a very important feature.

It would be great if this discussion here reaches some potential Chap 35ers in hyperspace and they begin to think about enrolling.

I commend you Jay-because as you sure know- it is difficult work and even more difficult sometimes to get the quite time you need as a student.

I guard and manage my time very carefully when in school-have month off-now but playing catch up with the yard work-etc-I havent had a real break in years.
