Larry,

I am pleased to see that perhaps something is being done to stop these outrageous " Personality Disorder" discharges, but will there ever be any help for us " Vietnam Era " Veterans fighting the same treatment.

Betty

I'm afraid your tale is all too common.

Have you tried this angle?...A mental health issue AGGRAVATED by military service? You should have your Service Officer explore this with you (I presume you are using a SO to file your claim). You may not want to go this way...but, if you can prove aggravation it opens to door for benefits.

Let me know on this..........

Take care.................

I was never diagnosed with a personality disorder while I was on active duty. Think that would have showed up sometime during my 20 years of service????? However the mental health professionals at VA have labeled me with all sorts of personality traits & disorders. I've never been diagnosed as being paranoid either but could the mental health people be attempting to make sure I can never win an increase in rating?? Just wondering.

Liz,

Most likely. I find that the doctors at VAMC will do anything to block you. To me, they are for the most part just a bunch of No- Good Quacks.

Just my opinion,

Josephine

Personality disorders are the least understood disorders in mental health and can only be diagnosed with a longitudinal study of the patient because you need extensive notes over a long period of time (IE - prior to service) in order to make that call, and even then it's a really gray issue.

This is a loophole for the military/VA and they are abusing it, period!
