What Happens To The C-file After Death

Rate this question

Ron II

Question

Does anyone know what happens to a C-file after the veteran dies? What about VA medical records for a veteran who never filed a claim, but was an in-patient for several years prior to his death?

The second question pertains to a half-brother whom I never met.

Thanks,

Ron

Not sure but probably goes to NARA like all miltary records. When I first started my claim I had to get a copy of my medical records and was directed to write to them for my records.

The C file-if a survivor files for DIC and accrued benefits stays right at the VARO.

The medical recorfds can be retired to NARA.

In my case the C file and medical records never left the VARO when my husband died- until my 2 claims there were resolved.

Then when I re-opened the claims- they had to get Rod's medical records out of retirement and send them back to the VARO.

But the C file (which was his C file in his lifetime )has always remained at the RO.

When thousands of Americans faced annihilation in the 1800s Chief

Osceola's response to his people, the Seminoles, was

simply "They(the US Army)have guns, but so do we."

Sameo to us -They (VA) have 38 CFR ,38 USC, and M21-1- but so do we.
