Question

Got my diagnosis, Pan Colitis. I have felt trerrible since the end of June. Finally I became so ill I had to do something. I am going to a specialist later this month. My question is I am SC for gastritis. Also I have been on Pain Meds and alot of other drugs since my SC neck surgery. Does anyone know if the medications, stress or causes my entire colon to be covered in ulcers. My meds have been: hydrocodone, ibuprofine, celexa, welburine, muscle relaxers, topimate and numberous other over the last 5 years. Does anyone have any advice of pan colitis. i need all the info I can get to be healthy again. Thanks

If I were you I would google every med you take-as Purple said- and go to the best sites that pop up-and see what the side affecst are and if there is association between the colitis and the meds.

This could also be claimed as secondary to your SC gastritis and I would claim it additionally as secondary to and aggravated by the meds you take for the SC condition.

A vet is never locked into one single type of claim-they can (and often should)raise any reason at all for service connection. If one reason doesnt work another reason might.

Collagenous colitis can be secondary to gastritis in rare cases. Have you had any unusual weight loss recently? I found a case of collagenous colitis secondary to gastritis reported on the internet after I searched under gastritis AND secondary colitis. I also searched using the same terms gastritis AND secondary colitis on the website of the U.S. Court of Appeals for veterans claims and the result was not favorable. The court took the view in one case that the colitis could result from family history. Looking online further it looks like colitis can be caused by vascular problems (blood flow problems like ischemia) in tiny capillaries from gastritis. I suspect you need to see a doctor outside V.A. who is knowledgable on gastritis and colitis and how blood flow problems from gastritis can cause colitis. Perhaps you need a really knowledgable gastroenterologist, but I don't know if you can find one knowledgable enough to understand the problems with the capillaries in gastritis which can cause colitis.
