Question

Does anyone know what the G.G. immunizations given to military in 1992 was/or is? I tried to Google it, but was confused.... Was it another name for the anthrax shot? Was it even a shot? What was it for & do they still give it?

Thanks

I got it on my shot records in 1973 1988 and Dec 1990 when I was activated for the first gulf party and I remember being told to drop the drawers and grab the table and it was thick and the needle was big and it took them a few seconds to inject that bubble bulging shot, and you felt it for the next week sitting down.

Gluteus Maximus. Sounds like one of Julius Caesar's generals...

Testvet had a great description of the experience, right on target. Thanks for bringing it all back again...

.

GG shots were a .. "FULL 5 CCs" .. in EACH shot ... compared to a normal shot of .5 or 1/2 CC.

The average TT (Tetnus Toxoid) shot was only .5 or 1/2 CC and you remember how those hurt ??

The GG shots were 10 times bigger in volume than a normal TT shot.

They were VERY BIG and many people got 2 GGs at one time too .. 1 in each buttocks.

GG shots were made from horse serum and only lasted an average of 6 weeks in duration ... but the troops were never told that.

...Magoo .. aka ... Bill ...

I remember getting the GG in Okinawa and then a booster shot upon arrival in RVN. It was very painful to say the least to kneel down on one knee during orientation much less walk. I was very sore for days after each time. I was told the GG was given to help clot the blood in case of being wounded. I was also told it was one size fits all and the average dose was set for a 250 lb man. I believe I only weighed 145 lbs at the time.
