Marion
Hello I'm trying to help a veteran with VA claim paperwork. He was a pilot back in the 70's and lost his flying status because of "untrackable air sickness" He left the Air Force at that point. Short story.....he was dieagnosed with meniere's in the 90's. I would like to "prove" that the air sickness was the early onset of meniere's Is there any information on this. Thank You for any help you can give. Marion Marion, The vet will need a doctor that is a credentialed Audiologist or ENT specialist to review their smr's - civilian or va continuity of care medical records, make a firm diagnosis and state a nexus supported by medical rationale, connecting active duty medical evidence to current diagnosis of meniere's. In my opinion that is the only shot this vet will have at being granted SC for this condition. jmho, carlie
HadIt.com Elder Pete53 Posted May 18, 2009 HadIt.com Elder Share Posted May 18, 2009 Thanks for helping a Veteran and Carlie gave you great advice. Very winnable if you stay after VA in my opinion. The key will be the Doc to put the case together. No Doc no chance.
HadIt.com Elder Josephine Posted May 18, 2009 HadIt.com Elder Share Posted May 18, 2009 Marion, Having this dreadful disease myself, I do have a couple of questions? Your friend had to give up flying due to air sickness and this was in the 1970's. He was diagnosed with his Meniere in 1990's. What was his life like between the 70's - 90's. Does he have medical records for these years to show continued treatment or symtoms. Like a doctor visit for dizzy spells or perhaps E.R. Visits for that horrible spinning. This would be for those 20 years before the diagnosis. Prescription meds for Antivert, etc. Just trying to help your friend, as I live it every day. Marion
Hi We did a NOD and the fact that he has little or no records for the past 20 years hurts. A family doctor did state the early symptoms were "more likely then not" to be the starting stages. He did not back this up with reasons etc....I'm trying to find facts to back this up. I will contact family and have them contact the doctor. He was removed from flying ststus...is air sickness a condition ? Thank You Marion
carlie
Marion, You began this thread topic as though the claim for SC was an original claim. Being that the vet has already filed a claim for the condition, been denied and now a NOD has been filed, if VA continues the denial your vet will need new & material evidence to re-open, or send a form 9 to BVA In my non-medical opinion, airsickness is a symptom, usually referred to when a person is barfing. You posted, "Short story.....he was dieagnosed with meniere's in the 90's. I would like to "prove" that the air sickness was the early onset of meniere's ." Who diagnoised the veteran as having Meniere's ? What are this doctors credentials, what type of doc is this ? What treatment and what have doctors stated in writing, on this condition and what employment has the veteran held since this diagnosis in the 90's? Without the right medical evidence from the right specialist of doctor, you will not be able to "prove" this to VA. jmho, carlie
HadIt.com Elder Josephine Posted May 18, 2009 HadIt.com Elder Share Posted May 18, 2009 (edited) Marion, What I am trying to say. Yes, this could have been the beginning of his Meniere, but did he have any symptoms after his discharge on record with a medical doctor. My attack came in 1994 and I have been on Antivert since that day. I have been to the best balance centers. I can't walk a straight line and stumble and fall easily for my equilibrium is not as it should be. Has your friend been employed since service and does he have medical records of incidents since service. Usually when the illness begins one has attacks of vertigo and nausea. Has he suffered with these since service before his confirmed disgnosis in 1990. We have a 20 year span to cover. I believe he will need a paper trail to Service Connect the two. Sure hope I am making sense. Betty Edited May 18, 2009 by Josephine
