1: Initial claim it is imperative the disability is clearly defined.
2: Be precise and to the point. Don’t add too much verbiage as the VA is only interested in your claim and condition.
3: Attach as much evidence as you can.
4: Use certified mail return receipt on all correspondence to the VA.
5: Use IRIS as often as you can. VA replies are in writing and you can print those.
6: If you get a denial, don’t get, mad, and get busy. It could be a simple mistake. A mistake on your side hurts but a Mistake on the VA is in process cue and you can ask for reconsideration if within the time limits. If not within the time limits, a Cue claim will preserve original date.
7: Be polite to the VA. I think the better the rapport with the VA the better.
