Question

I just wanted info .......I know a veteran, that's a friend of his that has stopped going to local VA outpatient clinic and don't go to any appo. to VAMC either ,,he has missed several now .He was on several strong pain meds. and the local VA doctor and VAMC wanted him to start going for pain management ,,but he says he is not going to go .My husband which is also a vet, told him he's afraid they will stop all his meds.{they have already stopped his pain meds.because he refused to go to pain management}.. he also takes meds for his heart ,,he doesn't think they will cut those out. My husband also takes meds for his heart and told him that they will have to keep a check on BP and Chlosterol,,they do my husbands,,,but the vet I'm talking about told my husband he don't think they will cut those meds out,,,but I we are thinking they will if he dosn't go for check-ups like he's suppose to ,,even private doctors will quit seeing you after a while if you don't ever go back for check-ups when you are suppose to.too.....His friend also gets a pension frpm VA ,with a small percentage of it is compensation. He says by not going won't bother his heart meds. neither his check he gets. My husband wanted me to post to see if anyone knows for sure which one is right ,,if anyone knows for sure or to see if there is anywhere we could find out. We are not trying to be busybodies ,,but are concerned for him and his future .Thanks for any info .you can give.

It will also complicate things if he ever has to file for an increase for anything, as there will be a sizable gap in the treatment record.

We told him it might interfere with the benefits ,,,,he said it wouldn't ,,, We don't know what to do except ,,I told my husband that he might have to learn the hard way ...........Thanks for replying to my post.

If they don't see him they will cut his meds as the script runs out

Thanks for reply,, Thats what we thought and told him so ,,he said oh no ,not my heart meds,,,my husband is on heart meds too ,,he told him theres no way he would do anything to mess up getting his meds ,,his friend said he wasn't going to worry about it ,,so I told my husband to stop worring about him ,if he wouldn't try to help himself. ,,,better said than done though.

This veteran can certainly make the CHOICE to NOT go to the doctors,

but if there are medications he needs, this is not in his best interest,

although it is his CHOICE to make.

Sounds like you have given him fair warning, perhaps point out to your

hubby not to worry as this is the veterans CHOICE.

Many people with caner make the CHOICE NOT to do chemo or radiation.

This probably will not effect his pension unless the VARO request him to go for an examination

and he refuses - or they see no continuity of care and adjudicate that his disabling condition/s have improved.
