Along with my letters on ebenefits that show my 100% p&t, there is an application for DEERS enrollment. Can someone tell me what this is, or what it is used for?

You make an appointment at a base nearest you and go in and they

take care of everything. The card is an MWR card - use for commissary, etc . .

and other discounts that you might get.

Thanks, Carlie.... You were one of the first to help with my questions a year and a half ago, and you have been very good at clarifying things throughout all this. My thanks to you!!!

Or a reserve unit that is set up for it. There is something called a RAPIDS site locator that will help you find the one closest to you. Your wife can get one, too.

You need-

photo form of ID (drivers license)

DD214

SS cards

marriage certificate

Birth certificates

Just to add to this and help you prepare ;

Along with the list already posted,

In most cases you will first stop at the visitors center

PRIOR to getting to go thru the gates and onto the base.

If you drove there, the visitors center will need a

current vehicle registration and card showing proof of current insurance

on that vehicle and current drives license of the person driving

the vehicle.

Most Army bases will not take walk ins anymore they now require appointments, find the nearest military base and if the phone numbers are not listed for ID section call the post operator and ask for the Army personnel office or the G1, the veterans ID card will be marked indefinate and the dependents will normally get a 4 year expiration date which in our case matches the car stickers so it's easy to know when the wife's ID card is about to expire lol

Here is the locator for your nearest site. My wife and I went to a reserve center where they do them, instead of a post, so it was a lot easier to get in. It is true that I had to make an appt. ahead of time and that I to leave an message and then wait a couple of days before anyone got back to me. I think with a military post that part would have been easier. The documentation did not reference needing your DD214 but she asked for it
