Its a mystery to me that the VA could say everything is fine after a stress test 7 months ago and after a stress test thursday the Doc is scheduling me for an emergency angioplasty.

I will never again step foot in a VA Medical Center.

Pete, I know how you feel. I onse posted that the VA puts way too much emphasis on diagnostic studies with unqualified or undertrained personnel. My wife works as a medical professional for the VA and you should see some of the stupid stuff she sees every day.

My Cardiac Doc when told that I was treated at VA; said that I was treated by idiots. He also said that they have all the greatest machines and no one who knows how to use them.

It's a stress test anytime I have contact with the VA.......

Pete,

sorry to hear this. Thats another close call for you.

Seems like you've had several over the yrs if I remember correct.

If the meds don't get you, the DVA's dysfunctional attempt to provide health care or benefits will.

If its the only care you have, i've found the nurses to be less harmful than the PA's or the students.

sounds kinda familiar to me, I had a C&P in January for hypertension, it included a heart exam, the Nurse Practioner said everything was peachy. In April I had a stress test, i failed. In June I had a heart cath, three blockages one at 100 % and two at 80%........................now I have hypotension and bradycardia

While I am in no way taking up for the VAMC because we have had our share of problems with them, I do want to add what happened to me outside the VAMC. A couple of years ago, I had to go to the emergency room at our local hospital, which is supposed to be one of the best around here. At that time, I was told that my heart was fine and there was no problems at all with my heart. Well, if it was okay at that time, why did I have a heart attack 4 months later? Had a catharization and angioplasty because I did have a blockage. I spoke with my doctor and they stated that this didn't sound right either. So, I guess what I am saying is that while the VAMC does have a lot of problems, the local hospitals can misdiagnos something as well. With all of the latest equipment that both the VAMC and the local hospitals seem to now have, there should be no reason to misdiagnos or completely miss something like this. But, I am sure it happens everyday. Yet, for anything critical, we don't seek medical assistance from the VAMC. They seem to have too many NP, PA, interns, etc. seeing a lot of the patients. I don't have anything against these NP, PA's or interns as I used to have a PCP who was a PA and she was great. I just feel better having a known specialist treating me for anything I consider critical in nature and needs careful attention.

Just my experience and opinion.
