0 Content Curator/HadIt.com Elder Vync Posted September 3, 2015 Content Curator/HadIt.com Elder Share Posted September 3, 2015 Your symptoms/episodes determine the rating criteria, not necessarily diverticulitis. If your problems are considered moderate/severe according to the criteria below, definitely file for an increase:7319 Irritable colon syndrome (spastic colitis, mucous colitis, etc.): Severe; diarrhea, or alternating diarrhea and constipation, with more or less constant abdominal distress30Moderate; frequent episodes of bowel disturbance with abdominal distress10Mild; disturbances of bowel function with occasional episodes of abdominal distress0 7327 Diverticulitis. Rate as for irritable colon syndrome, peritoneal adhesions, or colitis, ulcerative, depending upon the predominant disability picture.

0 Whodat
I do not think that it's presumptive. Did you have those symptoms while in service or a within a year after leaving service? If so you may be good. If not, get ready for a long battle.
0 Moderator pacmanx1 Posted November 21, 2022 Moderator Share Posted November 21, 2022 (edited) After being treated and diagnosed with a particular symptom/disability, the first things to do is to find the regulation and file a claim. If granted, then you won and no big deal but if denied then file an appeal/disagreement. The reason I say this is because there are certain symptoms/disabilities not covered under the 38 CFR that could be rated but then again, those certain symptoms/disabilities could be rated in analogous (similar/parallel) to other symptoms/disabilities that are covered under the 38 CFR. Diverticulitis is ratable as IBS so it is possible that a veteran can be service connected for it. But the only way to find out is to file a claim and go from there. 7319 Irritable colon syndrome (spastic colitis, mucous colitis, etc.): Severe; diarrhea, or alternating diarrhea and constipation, with more or less constant abdominal distress 30% Moderate; frequent episodes of bowel disturbance with abdominal distress 10% Mild; disturbances of bowel function with occasional episodes of abdominal distress 0%. 7327 Diverticulitis. Rate as for irritable colon syndrome, peritoneal adhesions, or colitis, ulcerative, depending upon the predominant disability picture.
