HadIt.com Elder Buck52 Posted December 9, 2016 HadIt.com Elder Share Posted December 9, 2016 Does a veteran have rights at VAMC on who decides his prescription medications? and Who to see about major medical problems? I went to see urology clinic a few days ago about some E.D. Issues I been having and also enlarge prostate...my PCP put in the consult to the urology clinic. I been on enlarge prostate med's over a year and it seems to keep it at bay but my prostate is still enlarged but the med I take for it helps...I seen a APN (Advance Practicing Nurse) at the urology clinic and he took me off my enlarge prostate medication siting that was the cause or aggravates my E.D. ...I ask well what about my swollen prostate? what are you going to replace with that? he said ''nothing'' it kinda aggravated me to see a APN in the first place...not that he didn't know what he was doing but he never gave me an explanation when I ask him? Also I didn't like the comment he made when he ask me to ask my spouse to come in with me next appointment and he would tell her a few suggestion as what to do concerning our sexual activity and what and show her how to do some things..I told my wife about that and she was ferocious about it she almost called up there to give them piece of her mind she is very modest bout our sex life. I wanted to see a real urologist Doc not a Nurse.(with all due respect tot he Nurses) This Nurse took me off my prostate meds and wants me to come back in 4 months to see if that helped my E.D. Issue&bring my wife. Who can I see on a confidential bases about this? Thanks in Advance .........Buck I am not an Attorney or VSO, any advice I provide is not to be construed as legal advice, therefore not to be held out for liable BUCK!!! TiredVeteran
Buck, sorry you are having such a frustrating day. I don't have a lot of answers, but totally understand about how your wife feels about sexual activity being private. Hubby used to have Sex Therapy yearly with Dr. Finger (no joke) after he became a quad due to malpractice at VAMC. We both were so embarrassed I used to cry before we went. Just tell that doctor that it is too personal and private to discuss with your wife. Hubby and I would just attend and say nothing. Actually it was nearly a cruel joke to play on my husband, he is paralyzed. Sorry you are having a difficult day. Seems to me lately the VAMC is just getting ruder? At least that is how it is when I have to deal with them. Edited December 10, 2016 by TiredVeteran
HadIt.com Elder Buck52 Posted December 9, 2016 Author HadIt.com Elder Share Posted December 9, 2016 well the thing is I doubt that what he wants to say and show my spouse is considered medical help on a professional level of being standard practice ? My pcp had me take 100mg Viagra...that didn't help and also she sent me a vaccuam pump devise to use...that was useless..so she put in a consult to urology and I waited for my appointment and just to be told they are taking away me prostate meds for 4 months to see if that helped with my E.D. and not replacing my prostate meds? I can't figure that one out?..he never explain him self with that? I appreciate all the VA D'rs has did for me and my medications and flu shots ect,,ect,,(with my old Dr's thats came and gone now) but it seems to me these new Dr's could care less if we Veterans live or Die ...all there there for is a pay-check in my opinion And I hope and pray President Elect Donald Trump will weed out all the bad Dr's & Nurse's,Clerk's and get the VA System headed in the right direction with our healthcare problems and claims.
