Maybe restrictive wasn't the right word but to my understanding TDIU mostly deals with your inability to work because of your disability and if you are working a job that pays above the minimum wage threshold you don't qualify. While being 100% schedular you could work to your heart's content. Or at least this is my understanding of the difference between the two. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Yes, you do have the inconvience once per year to fill out the TDIU form, but if you successfully appeal the effective date, then you can see real money. Of course, you have to have a valid bases of appealing the effective date. Dont appeal just to appeal, but appeal only if you dispute the rating.
