If you have an illness or injury that's aggravated does the pay scale change? I was told the rating of your condition upon entry  subtracted from the final rating of your condition?/any truth to this

If you are SC due to aggravation, they are supposed to try and determine the level/percentage of disability present upon entry into the service and deduct that from the rating given after you got out.

Example

10% = Pre-service rating estimate

30% = Post-service rating

30% - 10% = 20% rating adjusted for aggravation

In my opinion, there is a problem with the way these ratings can be calculated. Sometimes the rater will apply a pre-service rating estimate of 10% or more even though the medical evidence at time of entry does not back it up. I suspect they do this in cases where the rating code does not contain criteria for 0%. I recommend researching the regulations to ensure the raters handled it properly.

Regardless, if you are not currently service-connected (SC), being SC is better and not being SC because you can receive VA treatment of the condition and travel pay (if you qualify).

Vync is correct.  The VA wants to seperate the percentage caused by military service from the part you had before service.  This is why I suggested you stay away from "aggravation" unless your condition was diagnosed prior to service.
