Proof Needed To Claim Mother As Dependent

Question

What documents or proof is accepted by the VA in order to claim Mother as a dependent. My buddy just got his brown envelope yesterday---70% service connected for PTSD---effective date of October 05. He supports his Mother and provides room and board. What is the process?

Dependent parents regs are within 38 USC 101(5), 38 CFR 3.59(2006), M21-1 Part IV, paragraph 13.01 -13.08.

Eligibility is determined by proven parenthood of the veteran and by income of the parent-that is low enough to require dependency on the veteran.

Special allowance benefits can also be determined and awarded if the parent falls into the VA's Aid and Attendance regs.

I believe -but am not sure- that the parent needs to fill out a financial statement-

Your Service rep might have one and if they dont the VA at 1-800-827-1000 can advise and send one-

unless the form you mean-actually covers this all.
