Big
Can a Vet claim PTSD benefits for Service aggravated disability? I was in the Army during the sixties and got a hardship discharge because of my mothers illness. I have been diagnosed with PTSD two years ago and the above is the stressor. I still have all the letters from doc. neighbors ect. that i used to apply for my discharge. Thanks, Big
HadIt.com Elder Vike17 Posted March 14, 2007 HadIt.com Elder Share Posted March 14, 2007 (edited) Big, Post Traumatic stress disorder claims are granted when there is an inservice stressor(s) the veteran encountered that caused fear of his own life and safety (normally combat or some type of a personal assualt), or the nature of an event(s) that emotional could be so disturbing, such as being around severly wounded or dead troops like bieng a corpsman or working in a morgue. These examples are just some of the possible stressors that would be grounds for a PTSD claim, not all of them. I'm sorry to say that something such as you have described isn't a basis for a PTSD claim. Just because VA has diagnoses you with PTSD doesn't mean that it was caused by the military. carlie
That stressor would not quantify a medical diagnosis under DSM 1V productive of PTSD. VA will say this claim has no merit, which wouldn't even open the claim up for duty to assist reg. This is only my opinion. carlie Carlie passed away in November 2015 she is missed. Berta
I am not a shrink but your husband's dreams do indicate he does need some psychiatric input. It could be from job anxiety ,financial worries, and many other things-and have nothing to do with his mother. It shows nothing at all to do with his service. An earthquake victim can get PTSD . Columbine families have PTSD. Rape victims can get PTSD. At least he has been diagnosed and is being treated for his PTSD. I agree with all others here that he does not have a stressor that will provide him service connected compensation- perhaps he is holding the actual stressor back. He needs: 1. documented diagnosis of PTSD-which he has 2. proof of stressful event in service 3. medical link (nexus) between the two. GRADUATE ! Nov 2nd 2007 American Military University ! When thousands of Americans faced annihilation in the 1800s Chief Osceola's response to his people, the Seminoles, was simply "They(the US Army)have guns, but so do we." Sameo to us -They (VA) have 38 CFR ,38 USC, and M21-1- but so do we.
