    Have Questions? Get Answers.

Tips on posting on the forums.

    1. Post a clear title like ‘Need help preparing PTSD claim’ or “VA med center won’t schedule my surgery instead of ‘I have a question.

    2. Knowledgeable people who don’t have time to read all posts may skip yours if your need isn’t clear in the title.
I don’t read all posts every login and will gravitate towards those I have more info on.

    3. Use paragraphs instead of one massive, rambling introduction or story.

Again – You want to make it easy for others to help. If your question is buried in a monster paragraph, there are fewer who will investigate to dig it out.

    Leading too:

exclamation-point.pngPost straightforward questions and then post background information.

    Examples:

    • Question A. I was previously denied for apnea – Should I refile a claim?
      • Adding Background information in your post will help members understand what information you are looking for so they can assist you in finding it.
Rephrase the question: I was diagnosed with apnea in service and received a CPAP machine, but the claim was denied in 2008. Should I refile?

    • Question B. I may have PTSD- how can I be sure?
      • See how the details below give us a better understanding of what you’re claiming.
Rephrase the question: I was involved in a traumatic incident on base in 1974 and have had nightmares ever since, but I did not go to mental health while enlisted. How can I get help?

This gives members a starting point to ask clarifying questions like “Can you post the Reasons for Denial of your claim?”

You’ve just been rated 100% disabled by the Veterans Affairs. After the excitement of finally having the rating you deserve wears off, you start asking questions. One of the first questions that you might ask is this: It’s a legitimate question – rare is the Veteran that finds themselves sitting on the couch eating bon-bons … Continue reading

Mostly, you will need an ID card, which needs to be a military ID.  You can get that on post, but you will need several things, which will include a disability letter/and or retirement verifications.

You have to go on post to get the id card, but they will likely let you on with a drivers license and maybe a VA card, and you would likely get some sort of temporary id to get you on post, then go get a regular commissary/on post id card.  Thats what I did, it was several years ago and I doubt its changed.

Some bases have an office just before the main gate (Travis AFB) where you can stop show them your ID to include current state drivers license and a VA medical ID card with your photo.  This will get you on base and maybe allow you to use the PX and commissary without military ID but maybe not.

For many years now I have had a military DAV ID card marked Indefinite that has allowed me to use all the base facilities and I have done so many many times.  Over a year ago I received the new military ID card from the base Deers office.

As a 100% P&T vet I have saved a lot of money and had a good time using the following base MWR and other facilities free of charge or with deep discounts.

1. RV park,  2. PX/BX,  3. Commissary, 4. Full  workout large GYMs, 4. On base Monarch dinning hall, 5. Outdoor recreation areas and store to include trailer rentals, 6. Library with free WIFI, 7. Bowling alley and theater.  8., Many other on base fast food and stores, 9. Class 6 Liquor store, 10. Lake fishing facilities and campground sites. 11. Golf course and shop and tennis courts. 12. Much more including staying at the onbase Air Force modern and clean Inns with wifi plus TV for $85.00 a night with free coffee.

Last but not least I can fly Space A anywhere in USA and Guam/Hawaii free on military aircraft as a Category IV standby 100% P&T vet.

Many years ago I flew Space A all over the USA on my Army National Guard ID with local unit commanding officer travel orders (1 page form with a few lines with his stamp signature that I filled out myself).  It was an adventure.

To get an actual military DAV ID card you will have to go to a military DEERS facility with all the proper paper work and at least two forms of ID with your recent photo such as VA ID card, Drivers license, etc.  You can see latest base access and military cards here.    https://www.cac.mil/

My comment is not legal advice as I am not a lawyer, paralegal or VSO.

Thanks for valuable information you provided. I have started the ID Card process and look forward to using the Commissary benefits soon.
