Link to site The landmark federal GI Bill has provided education benefits to veterans since 1944. Today, every state offers some sort of tuition benefit for members of its National Guard units. But with more Guard members deployed to combat zones since 9/11, many state legislators are looking for ways to help them and other recent veterans. State benefits typically are available only to those attending state-supported institutions and who meet certain academic requirements. Highlights of recent developments:

I live 1 hour plus from the nearest VA hospital. I've had 2 separate visits to the local ER. They have sent the bill to VA ADMIN, but it seems the VA is not paying them. I have even called numerous times to the Seattle regional office, last info they gave me was they have received some ER visit bills. My question is why do I receive bills that have unpaid balances even after they send them to VA ADMIN? Am I doing something wrong? Should I make payments? I'm so lost when it come to this, every time I speak with a VA rep they confuse me even more or they just flat out do not know what to say. Help please!

This has probably been posted before, but I was thinking about starting a thread on businesses that are pro-military and veteran friendly. I have run into a couple of them so far, and will try to post when I find others. Ok, here we go: 10% - Lowe's (hardware, lumber, plants, outdoors, appliances, etc.) Awesome service, and very friendly. They provide a 10% military or veteran discount when presented a VA ID card. The location I was at had one of their attendants run out and load my truck for me, and then he thanked me for my service. (I've tried Lowe's about 3 times so far, and they always grant the 10% discount with pleasure.) A+ 10% - Raising Cane's restauran…

Hey all anyone here on the forum had trouble getting a contractor to do the adaptive housing grant to help with remodeling of the veterans home? I have had a rough time getting a contractor to follow up. Is it this hard for any of you veterans who have gotten approved for the grant to modify the house? Thanks for any advice or how it worked for others. Have a good morning

It's time to update the old link from TBird stickied in 2007. Let's start with fishing... Before, if you were totally disabled your license was $1.00. Here is the new information for fishing only. Now it is $3.05 for everyone 20% and up. But read carefully... Yeah, that's right. Go where you renew the tags for your car. Don't expect them to know how to issue your discounted them either. It took them 40 minutes, not mentioning the long wait I already spent in line. Bring your VA letter showing you are 20% or more. P&T military ID won't work. They need to see the percentage on the letter from the VA. Also, if you have a disabled veteran t…

Ok, I am not sure where this topic goes, but needed some info regarding a letter I received in the mail after my VA enrollment was approved. It seems that after my VA Health enrollment was approved, I received a letter from Buckley AFB, CO and it contains an ARPC Form 69 (Annual AF Reserve Screening). It states that I must update my status, dependents, address, date of birth, etc.. and if I update any of those items, I must submit marriage cert and birth certificates. If I don't return it, that is a violation of the law. It also states that as a retired active duty member, I can be recalled to active duty for national emergencies, contingencies and brief periods to as…

Hello Community, I am getting ready to move from a homeless program for veteran's, into an apartment complex where my rent for a studio apartment is $1995 per month... I used to qualify for VASH , but from what I am now being told, the maximum monthly income you are allowed to have is $2900 - and being 100% service connected now - in large part to discovering Had-It - I make 2906 , $6 over VASH limits. So I've heard alot of things about an SSVF program that will help recently homeless vet's with security deposits and rent. Anyone have past experience or good knowledge on this? I was homeless for 3 years before going to jail for 6 mont…

http://www.va.gov/opa/appropriations_lapse_plan.asp This link will help in some ways to explain 'what the deal is' from the Department of Veterans Affairs perspective, if we indeed have even a partial shutdown. Obviously we are all hoping that power players on the Hill will find a way to get business done before major adverse effects follow putting us in a crisis management mode to put it lightly.

There is a $25 fee for the plate, but all the other fees are waived. The 100% can be schedular or TDUI. The letter you can print out on eBenefits for the commissary privileges and DD 214/215 are all you need. If you buy from an agency or used lot, make sure you take these with you or you will be charged full fees. Nice benefit!

I have one relative left that I stay in touch with, and his kid is getting married soon. They live in Norfolk, VA. I've booked us into the Cape Henry lodge/resort at Virginia Beach for the weekend of the wedding, and since we have a 14 hour drive down there we were looking for places to stop overnight. Carlisle Barracks would be about half-way, give or take a hundred miles or so, and their website says they have transient lodging available (I know maybe not the day we will be passing through, so we have another hotel in mind if CB has no openings). Has anyone stayed at either of these places? This will be our first stay in Army lodging, except for Edelweiss in …
