ptsd Hypertention- This One Will Make You Wonder-

We thought we should share this part of the rating decision. The VA can and does make a person laugh once in a while. Even our son,spotted this one and just shook his head in amazement.

In part, "We have assigned a 0 percent evaluation based on a review of private treatment reports, VA outpatient treatment reports to include recent VA exam which shows you with blood pressure readings of 182/78,179/82, 178/80. A noncompensable evaluation is assigned unless diastolic pressure in predominantly 100 or more; or unless systolic pressure is 160 or more; or unless the veteran has a history of diastolic presure 100 or more requiring continuous medication for control. There is no evidense of diastolic pressure of 100 or more; systolic pressure of 160 or more; or diastolic pressure of 100 or more requiring continual medication to control to warrent a higher evaluation."

This is one of the claims we thought we should ask for reconsideration on. Just because it should have been awarded at least 10% and maybe 20 as the medications have been increased 3 times in the last 8 months. Even the C+P doctor said to raise the medications during the exam for PTSD, he was concerned about the HPN.

Jangrin, that one is a very hard to get passed. That issue is like a Yo /Yo.

The VA can raise or lower the ratings based on the readings. The magic words wre continuos medication for control.

Also keep in mind that Hypertension side effects of medicines like Metropolol. It slows down the heart. It can make the person very sluggish.

Did they rate the HTN as a Primary or secondary due to DM?

They rated mine as Primary and heart disease secondary last year.

They rated it secondary to DMII but with 0 percent. We will file for reconsiderastion on this as Chuckles has been on medication. They rated everything on the award secondary to DMII. ANd they rated Chuckles 60% total. Then took the 60% as ONE TOTAL disability and awarded TDIU. He is still high on the BP and the meds aren't working to well, he has an appt coming up with the PCP and she has had him going to the lab every week. Something is going on that she is monitoring we will find out soon.

Get you an omoron BP monitor that prints the readings. Take it 3 times per day/ AM /Noon/ Dinner time. Keep a log and when you have several readings at 100 Diastolic or 160 Systolic turn in an increase claim. The Log is very helpful as It and other medical evidence cued a previous decision from 1994.

Also keep an eye on chuckles vision s Htn and DMII really effect the eyes.
