A key House subcommittee approved legislation in July that would create a new “fully developed appeals” (FDA) pilot program that could cut the time for appeals to be resolved by up to three years. The FDA proposal was developed by a DAV-led coalition of veterans service organizations working together with the Board of Veterans Appeals, the Veterans Benefits Administration (VBA) and Members of Congress.
The legislation (H.R. 800) would empower veterans whose claims for disability compensation were denied to submit their appeals, along with any new evidence they may have, directly to the Board of Veterans Appeals, rather than requiring local VBA regional offices to first review, develop and process that evidence and appeal.
H. R. 800 will next go to the full committee for its approval. -
