  1. Thanks Berta; I see you have handled this problem before. We feel like the VA handed over a check with one hand & snatched it back with the other. K says, what incompetent person do you know that administers his own 16 daily meds at precisely the same time. Also he memorized 6 phone numbers in one day after we moved back to Texas. He doesnt care if I am named fiducary because I have already done so for 9 years anyway, However, the VA C&P Dr did state that in his opinion K was not competent to manage his money. DAV did file a letter with K's hand written request for me to administer his affairs today. He gave advise and a form for Ft Hood for commisary benefits. I also have to ASK for ChampVa; you know they dont just give this away....forms on my desk. I am so discouraged; I could tell them that the entire retro will pay off all our bills with nothing left over. And here's your receipts. Thats the plan anyway. I will also be directly responsible to VA for keeping records "where did it all go? ". So why do those at VA administering this retro not have to answer for those same questions? At least I wont steal from him! Because he gives it all to me anyhow! LOL I am just pissed and now, Berta, glad to have your info. Patience is the by-word again. Looks like I will be busy.
  2. Hello everyone! Big brown envelope came today for K (hubby). He is 100% with a catch. "a finding of incompetency is proposed". They offer to administer the money or we can have an atty do it. However, later they say if the spouse does it she will be directly responsible for where it goes. Also, It seems they are holding the retro untill someone is appointed. anyone ever heard of this? Do I need an atty or can the RO help? Is that a good or bad idea (the RO )?
  3. Thanks everyone. I read the research Carlie recommended and, of course, I gleaned info that K will be awarded TDIU. The explanation that there really is no set route for the claim to follow still tells me it is up to the judgement of the humans in charge at VA. Ok Larry, my hourglass is almost empty! The stress of this claim has escalated K's SC of schizophrenia. He is flashing back to when he thought the guys in his unit were trying to kill him instead of the enemy. Now it's VA has it 'in for' him. And his meds had been working so well before this that I think we should have left the TDIU alone. I appreciate your patience at letting me sound off. But then, you all have been trained by experience to have LOTS of patience (with your claims).
  4. It's been almost 8 months since filing for TDIU. Previously we were told that on Dec 6 there were 2 more phases. We called the 800# different times & were told the same thing. Today they said that the claim went to the final phase on Dec 16. Does that mean there WAS a decision, and what are we waiting for now?
  5. Our expected Dec 30 letter came to say they are still working on it. (we have 6 of those form letters on hand) My Dr faxed a letter to K's DAV rep that stated that K's wife, his sole caregiver, has been diagnosed with Alzheimers. Due to this, there is a hardship on K . Please expedite this claim. So DAV was going to write his own letter & submit both. No guarantees they will expedite anyway, he said. Thanks Tbird, every suggestion helps. He filed about 8 months ago. After 2 C&P exams, both with a report positive in his behalf, we were hoping for some answer a bit faster than the snail. We were happy to see such a bunch of winners right before Jan 01. Imagine their feeling of relief!
  6. Halos2, I guess it depends on where you are. Last week we bought a gift washer for daughter at Home Depot, reg price $329, take off $10 being a floor model. They said since we already got the $10 off for being a display that we did not get the veterans discount. We didnt argue.
  7. Thanks Carlie you're always so helpful! Thats what it's about.
  8. Hawkfire27, Thank you, you stated, it perfectly "prevented him from having normal relationship with staff and customers". Exactly , and wonder why they didnt give him 100% in the first place. Experiences like yours are an immense help to us.
  9. Hello everyone, thanks for helping us. Carlie I am the same as Schreldia ('some' objected to my using grandmother's name- that kind of cousins duh). I don't think I have heard of hardship case, but it surely will become such! Would like for his income to cover paid help so he can stay as independent as he is now. So reason for this claim. the 800# said to expect 'a letter' by Dec 30. DAV said that 800# is like talking to the wall. His contact has no further news. Gee I hope the letter comes in a brown envelope.
  10. It's been almost 2 months since I last posted (for vet-husband). Took him for C&P exams about 3 weeks ago at Fayetteville Ar. The physical was done by a PA who verified stuff on the computer & listened to his heart. Thats all; 10 mins. Then on to the mental exam (same Doc who saw him back in '06). He remembered K; by the time I moved my truck & came back in. Doc was all done and annoyed. K said Doc was irritated because VA should have done 100% last time, especially due to his letter to them back then. He fumed about wasting everyones time as well as the Vet, expense, etc. He said this evaluation would be STRONG enough this time they will HAVE to give him the 100%. We have been optomistic, & 800 # says the C&P results are received and all waiting for a decision. DAV called in as well & said we should get a 'letter' in 2 weeks. Please tell me the VA is trying to wind up as many claims as possible before Jan 01-2011. I have been off-line about a week and I see lots of Vets here who have encouraging news, as well as success. We can only hope it happens before Dec 25! On another tac, we are in Mo right now & moving back to Texas. Here on Hadit, it was suggested not to change address before the claim is all finished (because when they move it, seems to start all over again from the bottom of their list. We are keeping the Mo house anyhow, so mail is not a problem. The VARO in Waco, Tx was super-nice. We entered the door for a VA home loan & had the eligibility form in hand within 10 minutes. Quite unlike St Louis! Of all the VA staff we have encountered over the past few months Waco have been extremely nice. Ok, VARO STL, read this HADIT, get kicking on our claim & I will give yall an attaboy too.
