  1. What wonderful news!! I am so pleased that your wait is over. Now, get out there and have a great time!

Got a call from the VA. The man informed me my claim for IHD under Nemher had been approved and my effective date was 1992. He said I should be setting down before he gives me the retro pay amount I am owed. Good thing I took his advice. He gave me a number which I wrote down on a piece of paper and gave it to my wife. She thought it was a telephone number. I was totally speechless. He also informed me my claim for TDIU was approved at 100% P&T no future exams required. I did my claim my self with help from forums like Hadit and Jim Strickland and a lot of research on how to do it right the first time. I am still thanking I am going wake up and find this to have just been a dream. I filed my claim for IHD in march of 2010. About 4 months later the VA called and said they had noticed my VA doctor had stated my already 40% rated lumbar DDD had gotten considerably worse and would I like to apply for an increase? So I said yes. Then in august 2010 the VA called and asked me if I wanted to file for TDIU. So I thought sure why not. They went through my claim folder and found old claims I had made years ago rated at SC but 0% rating. It was so long ago I don't remember even making these claims. So I got 60% IHD, 30% asthma, 20% right leg radiculopathy, 10% left leg radiculopathy, 10% tinnitis, and 40% lumbar DDD. The strange thing is this whole thing started when I asked for an increase rating for my 40% lumbar DDD and that was the only that was denied.

Like God the VA moves in mysterious ways.

  2. We are so very sorry to hear of this hero's death. May his family find peace and serenity in their memories and may God walk closer to them in this dark hour.

    Ex-Marine, veterans' advocate kills himself

His suicide has shaken many Iraq and Afghanistan veterans; 'he led an exemplary life,' says his father

WASHINGTON — Handsome and friendly, Clay Hunt so epitomized a vibrant Iraq veteran that he was chosen for a public service announcement that told veterans that they aren't alone.

The 28-year-old former Marine corporal earned a Purple Heart after taking a sniper's bullet in his left wrist. He returned to combat in Afghanistan. Upon his return home, he lobbied for veterans on Capitol Hill, road-biked with wounded veterans and performed humanitarian work in Haiti and Chile.

Then, on March 31, Hunt bolted himself in his Houston apartment and shot himself.

  3. Do you have a POA? The American Legion was ours and they have software that went into the system and he read it off to us about a week ahead of when it finally arrived. We were thrilled with our results and the stress of not knowing was replaced with big smiles.

    Good luck!!

No, this was a multi-item claim (10 items) but I originally initiated it in 1 Feb 2010. One item was granted in Dec 2010 and the others were restarted in Jan 2011. I did remember the letter generator trick and tried it and it came back at 70%! Exactly what I had anticipated. Now its a wait to see what the VA actually rated me for my individual items and if I have to due a NOD on anything - major stress relieved!

  4. This is very good news for you and your hubby!! Lets hope in your case as well as in mine that the compensation WILL HELP us live a long life and beat or treat this disease for a while.

I have a step farther who had his first heart attack at 47 and survived, He is now 86 because of the help he has gotten from his cardiologist!!

Thank you, Stillhere. We try hard to follow doctors' orders and are successful most of the time.

It is good to hear of your stepfather's long life. My husband had his first MI at 43...what a shocker that was! Bypass X3 in '96 and stents in 2008 have kept him going and he takes a handful of medicine, twice a day. Congestive heart disease is a biggie for him and we are watchful of edema and lung problems.

If you are awaiting a claim I hope your wait is short. Good luck.

  5. Thanks for the well wishes and a happy dance from our Hadit friends. When my husband filed his claim in 2004 for a surgical scar that drained (from an operation in VN), his private doctor detailed his CAD, Grave's Disease, and skin problems, as being in his opinion, "related to exposure to Agent Orange," we had no idea we would ever file another claim.

Imagine our surprise when a friend suggested my husband might have a claim, due to AO presumptives. A visit to a service representative produced a simple claim, a C&P, and this favorable decision.

Sites like this one have helped us get through the stressful times and we have gained much knowledge from fellow vets and their spouses. I'm sorry I didn't know about them before we filed as DMII and PN have caused minor problems for some time. I don't know if we will file another claim at this time.

Best wishes to all of you!

  6. Peggy said today that our letter was mailed yesterday from St. Petersburg. Like you, we will be waiting for the mailman but the stress level has diminished tremendously, huh? Check hasn't been deposited yet either...

Called the VA call center yesterday. They informed me that the letter has been sent to my address. Of course they wouldn't disclose the contents. It was sent from Waco and I live in Houston, so it will show up maybe tomorrow. I am not enrolled in Ebenefits so the letter generator can't help.

I just gotta stay busy for the next day or so....

  7. Hi Folks,

My AO/IHD claim was rated at Waco this Tuesday. Any ideas how long it takes for them to send the letter.

I do have direct deposit for prior SC on DMII.

Our claim went to notification last week and the lady at the VA called Saturday to verify information she needed and she said our letter would be here in a week....check may be in bank before then...

    Good luck to you!!

  8. Called our POA today and was told we will be receiving a letter in a few days granting my husband 100% for IHD, P&T, and 30% for scarring, retroactive to 2004.

He filed in August, 2010. This came from the St. Petersburg office.

We are thrilled and want to thank all of you for the support and knowledge received here.

  9. well today it has been one year since I submitted my claim for IHD due to AO exposure. During this time I recieved two letters about 4 months apart stating they are still working on my claim and are sorry for the delay. Oh well the retro pay is like a savings account so sooner or later I will get my compensation.

It can't be much longer now. It must be so very frustrating for you. My vet's claim for IHD is only 6 months old so we'll just wait them out too.

Let us know when that decision is made!

    Thank you for your service.

  10. The latest response I got from IRIS was that my claim was now at the rating agency and they were waiting on my medical file from the VA doctors. Can someone explain exactly what this means? I thought our VA medical records were all online? I was told a few weeks ago that the RO had already received my C&P exams and were waiting for my medical file from the Va doctors??? Shouldn't they have all this information already?

  11. Hello everyone, newby here but learning fast. Thank you all for sharing your knowledge and experiences.

My question deals with my husband's IHD/AO/Nehmer claim. In the rating tables, it states:

7005 Arteriosclerotic heart disease (Coronary artery disease):

With documented coronary artery disease resulting in:

Chronic congestive heart failure, or; workload of 3 METs or less results

in dyspnea, fatigue, angina, dizziness, or syncope, or; left ventricular

dysfunction with an ejection fraction of less than 30.....100%

He has Chronic Congestive Heart Failure, but due to bypass surgery in 1996 and stents in 2008, he was given an Echo for a METS number. He was asked about dyspenea, fatigue, angina, dizzinesss, etc, in 2006 by the technician doing the last treadmill test he has had. His C&P shows a guess of 5 METS. His ETS is estimated at 55. He had his first heart attack at age 43, in 1989, and a second one 10 years later. He served two tours in VN from 1968-1971.

He still works two days a week as a security guard. This is a sedentary job where he presses a button and opens a gate for vehicles....nothing physical....

My question is, does the 5 METS and his job prevent him from being awarded 100%?

    Thanks for your help.
