Agent Orange and Navy Ship's Drinking Water
The ship I was on went to Vietnam in 1967 before I went aboard. The ship came back from Vietnam in May 1967 and and I went on board in Nov. 1967. The ship was in Vietnam waters and took on water to be distilled for drinking, bathing, cooking and for boiler feed water. The ship went out for a Med. and North Atlantic Cruise in early 1968. After coming back from the cruise it went to the Boston shipyard to have some work done. After the work was done it went for a shakedown cruise to Guantamano Bay, Cuba. The ship came back to the U.S. and I left the ship 1969. There have been studies done by the Australian Navy on Agent Orange and drinking water distilled in Vietnam w…

Nehmer case ???
i have been filing for exposure to dioxin (not agent orange) for about 9 nine years because i never set foot in a listed ares. i was exposed to dioxin during a ship board fire. pcdd dioxin is a break-down product of pcbs heated to 500 to 900 degrees and was always denied. under the Pact Act I am now covered for agent orange exposure because i was feet on the ground at both johnson atoll and Guam. Because i filed before as for exposure to PCDD dioxin as a shipboard fire by product can i now claim this as a Nehmer case now i can prove exposure to agent orange. Or because i claimed exposure to a differant type dioxin with a differant cause does this nega…

Who had bladder or prostate cancer secondary to AO exposure?
I'm trying to determine whether those Vietnam War era vets who qualify for AO benefits because of bladder or prostate cancer have either high grade cancer or low grade cancer (high grade being the type of cancer that tends to come back over time.). This is for an informal study I'm doing on Agent Orange. I personally have bladder cancer following a tour of duty years ago (Da Nang, Class of '71) and my cancer is high grade.

My husband just passed away on the 27 of March 2023. He was hospitalised for having 2 strokes which damaged his right leg. He has been in and out hospital every two days up around March 19, when hospital sent him home on hospice, and he lived three days. He actually died of multi organ failure. Kidneys completely quit, liver failed and he had to have his stomach drained 4 times, each time they got 6 litres off him. He ha filed for hypertension in 91, and was denied. It is in his medical records he had hypertension in service. By looking up other stuff while he was in hospital on va site and had it, I saw hypertension now can be service connected to agent orange. We…

Hazardous materials compensation
I have always wondered why people who work in hazardous industries or whose jobs involve radioactive emissions do not receive compensation? It seems to me that the state should take care of such citizens.

I just happened on this site as I have been trying to find info on Ft Clayton for an upcoming trip to Panama City. My deceased husband was stationed there from 11/1961-11/1963. He used to tell me ‘he walked guard duty on the canal.’ He also was a gunner on a mortar. By 2/73 he had died of brain cancer. Doc said initial tumor could have been caused by loud explosions near his head. Now I’m reading about the chemical weapons used, stored, and fired there at Clayton and wondering if he could have been exposed. Can you offer any directions or sites I should explore? Additionally is there anything left from this era at Ft. Clayton that would warrant a side trip/visit. …

Carotid Hypersensitivity
In 2017 had a pacemaker implanted for carotid hypersensitivity. VA paid for it. I am service connected for heart disease. This year I decided to file a claim for worsening condition of heart disease. Found an article on Pubmed that said carotid hypersensitivity was not a separate disease, but a marker for heart disease and arteriosclerosis. VA rejected my claim for worsening condition and said it had nothing to do with the heart. Said it was not service connected. I think they are absolutely wrong. If it is not service connected, why pay for the pacemaker. I've taken this claim as far as I can. I'm limited to what I can do. Would like to turn it over to…

My AO exposure story
I joined the Army in 1967 as airborne Infantry but I didn't make it to Nam. I served 1967-1970 stateside and in Germany. My AO exposure was at Fort Gordon GA. I/we were involved in finding the optimum mixture of the concentrate AO to diesel fuel. It became my duty to use up the defoliant that was left over after the testing was complete. My direct exposure, directly and hands on working with and spraying 24D-245T was every day from September 6, 1967 to March 4, 1969 whereupon I was deployed to Germany. When I filed my first claim in 2005 the DOD and the VA were very adamant that AO had never been used in CONUS, PERIOD! In order to Substantiate my AO exposure cla…

Hypertension
Back in 2012 I applied for disability with the VA: diabetes, heart disease, and hypertension. They were all presumptive at that time. They approved all three and I received back pay and started receiving monthly checks. Then a few months later they removed hypertension but said I could keep all moneys already paid and that the monthly payment would stay the same. Removing hypertension happened to a couple of other guys I know. Monetarily no damage but would not be able to receive any treatment expense for the disease. Now I see as of 2022 hypertension is on the presumptive list. See anything wrong with applying for disability again for hypertension? Thank…

Dixon and agent orange
Filed a claim for Parkinsons', hypersensitive carotid artery requiring pacemaker, and heart attack. Parkinson's was new. The latter two were filed as worsening condition of my already service-connected heart disease. Parkinsons' approved. Heart attack rated 0. Carotid artery deferred. VA letter says they believe artery problem is caused by dioxin. Wants a letter from a doctor supporting that it is caused by dioxin and evidence supporting her claim. According to this I found on the internet: "Dioxin is a member of the class of persistent organic pollutants which resulted from the deliberately accelerated production of 2,4,5-T, one of the components of age…

DMZ in 80s with Agent Orange Illnesses
My friend served in the Army in the Korean DMZ in the 1980s. Got out now he has ischemic heart condition. Diabetes type 2. Skin hyperpigmentation. Numbness in joints and limbs and many more symptoms of agent orange. My question is how does he get disability approved since it doesn't fall in the years of presumptive conditions 68-71. I have read others in the 80s-90s veterans serving in the dmz contracted illness due to agent orange and had difficulty getting approval. Thanks for input. I appreciate it greatly.

Treatment completed, but checks keep coming. Am I in trouble?
My Agent Orange Lymphoma claim sailed right through. I used my company insurance plan instead of the VA. 2 1/2 years of treatments. ended in August. VA finally contacted me about a C&P exam which took place in December. Still have not heard back from them, but the checks continue. Am I in trouble now financially, and expected to pay back anything, or does the C&P ruling determine when the clock stops? With the VA so backlogged, I would bet there are a lot of people in this position.

Attorney needed that will take my case
I haven’t been here for a while, but to update, I am 100% P & T now, but the VA did not hardly pay any retro pay. My medical records are still being withheld per Exemption 5 [ 5 U.S.C. 552 (b)(5) ], and my medical treatment records were intentionally withheld for 51 years now. I have the records request form from January 1972 when the US Army told me they were lost intransit from Vietnam. This was absolutely false, and I finally got them in 2016, showing I had no reaction to Chloroquine, yet I had a skin disease they could not determine the cause of. I actually had malaria, and was hospitalized with a serious Lung infection from “Undetermined Organisms” eight months a…

The claim is being reviewed under the Nehmer case, because VA added it to the agent orange diseases. Since I am 100 percent when the claim is completd am I eligible for a rectroactive payment? thank you

Blue Water Navy info from VA OIG
Blue Water Navy Outreach Requirements Were Met, but Claims Processing and Procedures Could Improve 09/02/2021 02:30 PM EDT Since 1991, veterans who served in the Republic of Vietnam are presumed to have been exposed to herbicides such as Agent Orange. The Blue Water Navy Vietnam Veterans Act of 2019 extended this presumption to include veterans who served within 12 nautical miles of Vietnam. The objective of this OIG review was to determine whether Veterans Benefit Administration (VBA) employees (1) notified Navy veterans of their potential eligibility to receive medical benefits under the act; …
