  1. You mean that you can be DENIED a claim with an IMO of #2, "more likely than not" ?

    **************************************************

    1. "is due to" (100% sure)

    2. "more likely than not" (greater than 50%)

    3. "at least as likely as not" (equal to or greater than 50%)

    4. "not at least as likely as not" (less than 50%)

    5. "is not due to" (0%)

    **************************************************

What are the essential items of a good IMO?

    * PERSONAL DATA

    * MEDICAL DIAGNOSIS (specific by title of disease/condition)

    * MEDICAL PROGNOSIS (future outlook, permanent, no chance of improvement)

    * RATIONALE FOR OPINION (nexus)

On Dr. Bash's web site, he has a sample Letter of Disagreement with VA Medical Evaluations (C&P). Dr. Bash used, "it is my opinion that this patient does have XXX". Also, he says, "it is my opinion that this patient’s XXXXXs are all likely XXXXXX."

Must the IMO state "it is my opinion that Mr. YYYYY's XXXX is due to ZZZZZ ?"

    Comments, please?

Yes! I was denied for more likely than not. They chose to give the other opinion more credibility. The opinion for more likely than not was from the specialist who treats this condition,

  2. I have been reading the board and have come across the following.

You have a MD statement that says it is at least as likely as not, is most likely, was due to.

I received a SC for a least as likely as not ( 50 percent sure)

I have 2 C@P opinion from MD not NP that state most likely. (75 percent)

I have 1 from same doctor that says was due to. (100 percent)

I have no decision because this has been going from the rating team to the development team back and forth. I feel confident I am going to win, But they are really messing with these claims.

Has anyone ever been denied and had a MD statement at the least as likely and and over opinion?

Yes! I have been denied for more than likely and least likely as not. Rationales and supporting medical treatise were also given by Specialist.

  3. The VA will discredit an IMO if the doctor doesn't give his/her rational for their desicion. A simple one or two sentance statement from a physician more than likely wil result in a denial.

    Vike 17

Such hypocrisy on the VA's part because they will accept a one or two negative opinion to deny a claim.

It reminds me of the famous word Dr Lee said at OJ's trial ["something is wrong".]

  4. "No matter how much education she might have she is still a nurse not a physician."

I take it, by your above statement, that you think less of nurses than you do physicans?

You must, then, ascribe to the view that all doctors, simply because they are doctors, hung the moon.

    Well, I didn't.

Larry--I don't carry the credentials as your wife but I am a Retired LPN Army Trained. As I said before I have worked with some of the best to include former Heart Surgeon Bill Frist.

  5. "Your post about nurse practitioners (and by extension, PA's, interns, etc.) is exactly the reason why veterans should challenge the adequacy of a C & P exam when it's conducted by someone lacking the necessary professional credentials to make that evaluation."

My wife is a Nurse Practitioner.

She is not a "Doctor wannabe".

She has a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing.

She has a Master's Degree in Nursing.

She has a Doctorate ( PhD ) in Public Health.

She is a Certified MidWife, A certified Advanced Practice nurse.

She has gone to college most of her adult life and worked at the same time.

She has spent 5 years getting her Bachelors ( BSN takes 5 years ).

She has spent 3 years getting her Masters.

She has spent 3 years getting her PhD.

And, I assure you, when you combine the "Clinical Practice" requirements of her degrees, she could most certainly been a "REAL Doctor", but she did not want to be a "REAL Doctor". She is, instead, a REAL NURSE, and she certainly HAS the necessary professional credentials to do her job.

I suggest you rethink your obviously flawed statement.

No matter how much education she might have she is still a nurse not a physician. There are some NP's and PA's that do a better job than any physician, believe me I have worked with some of the best. I also have seen some of the most shoddy work from MD',PA's and NP's . These so-called exams should be recorded or video taped upon the veteran's consent of course.

  6. John -are you saying the older docs are now basically still on the hard drive but cannot be edited?

But they could still be read with the viewer?

I thought PCs would eliminate paper-

Berta, there is a possibility the files are still there. They may be saved ont he C: drive.

Dorothy go to C: windows: Programs and look for Word. You may have just lost the shortcut.

What operating system do you have? Office 97 will work with windows 95 / 98 / NT

Office 2000 will work with XP

    I have windows XP
