  1. Like Chongo says its kind of the 5 month wait and if you have that out of way should be pretty soon if all the paper work is out of the way. If you have kids don't forget that they should get about half of your check also.

    Pete:

I got approved for SSD!! I have 2 children, are they both entitled to half or is half divided between the 2 of them? Because that is what SS just told us.

  2. ChampVA and not Champus. ChampVA is actually a very small program that is awarded to spouses and children 18 or younger of 100% P&T Veterans. A lot of Medical Providers get it mixed up also

I have said it before and I mean it if the VA told me I could elect to have ChampVA I would be signed up as soon as I got the paper. Its actually a wonderful Insurance and all that we pay for Mrs Pete is the initial 50 dollar deductible and 25% copay on Meds. She has Medicare which is Primary and has to have Part B

Is ChampVA only used or accepted in VA medical facilities?

  3. You are so right John-

then again- I have had considerable problems- (but not here) with 3 wannabee widows in the past year-

    yep -wannabee widows-

and as a matter of fact some woman who lives with my best friend (USAF vet)up the road came here Sunday asking me about his will and his retirement pension-and the VSGLI he has for his son-

she was in a jam a year ago and he gave her extra room to stay in and probably he gets no help with the upkeep-he thought it was temporary-

I told her I dont know anything about his business (of course I really do-we are good friends)

and the VA is giving him great care -he is only 55- but she has him with one foot in the grave already-and there is no way he would ever marry her-and he made sure the VA knew she wasnt even a girl friend (she went with him to an appointment there and they asked)

Men and women I have been upset about this visit ever since because this is not the first time I have seen this stuff happen-

Most of you here have a guaranteed compensation VA income-

and many of you get SSA too-

As cute as I bet you all truly are-

    if you are single-

to some out there you even look cuter-due to what you get on the 1st of the month.

Good one Berta, after some tough physical therapy today and much pain from the PN and ole "arthur" I really needed that laugh, thanks.

  4. What an outstanding story. It is absolutely outstanding but I just wonder how many other problems this may have caused this veteran. They still probably owe him twice the amount. At any rate great story and I wish the congressman much success in his plan to prevent this from happening again.

  5. The waiting part comes first then your SSD direct deposit. I have been waiting since Aug 2007. Finally on Jan 16,2008 I will be receiving my first direct deposit. There is a 5 month waiting period before anyone receives their first direct deposit. I was approved on the first round and then it was sent to Quality control @ Dallas Regional Office. Good luck.

    Chongo

Thanks and congrats on your award. I am waiting on quality control also.

File for the SMC. I am P&T for 6 years and I filed for and got SMC. I am also filing a CUE claim. If the VA owes you then go get it.

    John

Thanks, that's exactly what I plan to do. You are right in saying that they owe me, my thing is not to leave anything on the table for them to share among themselves.

  7. Let me make sure that I understand this clearly. If I am 100% P/T and have a SMC claim for a service connect disability, DON'T FILE? Because I may lose my 100%? I respectfully asked that the Elders weigh in on this because I just had a surgery and I am do temporary 100%. Am I to allow the VA to scare me away from what is MY BENEFIT? I would hope not.

  8. Hello all,

Never thought I'd be posting in the success stories...

I applied for SSD benefits towards the end of Aug 07, and got an award letter dated Dec 11, 07!!!!! I'm still in shock! There were three things that contributed to this: 1) LOTS and LOTS of praying, 2) My mom and stepfather, who informed me of SS and how I rated it, 3) And last, but not least, the wonderful people here at hadit. You guys/gals are truly special, and I thank YOU ALL from the bottom of my heart.

T-Bird, thanks for the site, you've helped us all in ways that we could never explain. Onward to the VA!!! The fight continues!!!!

    Kappa

Congrats on your success, #s 2&3 couldn't be possible without #1. Good luck with VA

  9. ATTENTION RECRUITER RICK & EVERYONE = if you were discharged before 1975, in BLOCK 11-c, Reason & Authority, that is where your code should be, where the word Honorable or Under Honorable is. Sometime in the 1980's, to prevent additional lawsuits, the DD-214 was changed, the SPD code was not supposed to be on the VETS copy, however, went on the other 8 or more copies of DD-214 made, and they went everywhere. LASTLY, an RE CODE ( re-enlistment ) other than a " 1 " was not good, as employers believed if they did not want you back, neither did they. Maybe your MOS was full, and no need ?

That is incorrect. An RE-Code (Re-Entry Code) other than "1" is not bad. There are many, many great servicemembers that are discharged with an RE-Code of "3" which could have a variety of meanings, such as "MEDICAL REASONS". I posted before that normally the RE-Code and the narrative reasons for separations supports each other.

  10. jmack:

The response that you had is common for many drugs. It was first noticed and called the prozac effect. I think that what it means is that you were so depressed that you did not have the energy to use your plan and your response to the medication was you almost had the energy to do it. Thank God that you did not.

For anyone contemplating suicide it is important to consider the affect will be on family and friends, Also know that if you wait you will usually change your mind. At least talk to your Doctor or someone who can help.

I made a promise that if I ever felt that I needed to commit suicide I would at least talk to my shrink first.

    Pete:

You are a very wise man. Yeah, you're right and I did thank GOD that I did'nt do it. Thank you.
