  1. hi all; i was asked a question by a lady the other day while waiting for my doctor appointment. i do not know the answer. she is getting dic and social security disability (drawing from her deceased husband) each month. she won under $1,00.00 in a drawing. will this upset her monthly benefits? i told her i would ask and let her know. again, thank you for your help. teejay

  3. hi all; i am back with a question. i would like to relocate to missouri to be closer to family and was wondering if my dic and social security survivor monthly amounts will change because it is a different state. my neighbor receives ssi and says hers changed when she moved from one state to another. something else to scratch my head over and worry. as always, i thank you for your help. teejay

  5. hi all; i have a question, i read the following on page 143: webpage: http://books.google.com/books?id=TpJNJK4PnRYC&pg=PA137&lpg=PA137&dq=can+deceased+veteran+dic+be+cancelled&source=bl&ots=-MPFuwvMFd&sig=_B34NjR9stldPSsRmv4ufhjDegA&hl=en&ei=YxyoTIXRE4T6lwfzsqjnDA&sa=X&oi=book_result&ct=result&resnum=7&sqi=2&ved=0CCYQ6AEwBg#v=onepage&q&f=false the paragraph is titled: expiration of benefits "spouses and surviving spouses have ten years from the date va establishes eligibility to use the benefit." does this mean that dic monthly payments only last for 10 years and then it is gone? thank you for your help. teejay
  6. i have tricare standard. i am thinking of getting tricare prime, however that will not help the medicals bills i accumulated september to october 2009 from my leg amputation. my concern is with tricare standard paying, i believe 75%. how is the remaining 25% handled i am not able to pay it? thank you for your help.
  7. hi all, i would appreciate your help with the following question. if i have insurance lets say: insurance pays 75% and 25% is left for me of a medical bill. what happens to the my 25% if i have no money to pay this? does the insurance still pay the 75%? i have looked on the internet for this particular information and can't seem to find an answer. again, thank you all for your help.

  9. hi all; i found a supplemental insurance that i think will help with the costs from a medical bill after tricare standard pays it's portion (i believe 75% is paid by tricare standard) . it is a supplement insurance offered by hartford. the link is below if you would like to visit. http://www.asicorporation.com/tri_standard.html i think i am going to get this, the deductible is $250 and the premiums are not that expensive for the coverage it provides after tricare pays. hope this helps someone. teejay
  10. hi all; i have been looking for an insurance to supplement my tricare standard. so far, i found out i am not eligible for moaa, usaa or mba. does anyone have any other thoughts for a good supplemental insurance? i like tricare prime, but the doctor i have been seeing for over 2 years is not on the primary care list and i do not wish to change to a doctor on the list. so i am going to wait before i change to tricare prime. i found asi (issued by hartford insurance), but it is expensive and has a big deductible, so i am going to look a little longer. thank you for your help. have a great day. teejay

    Pay Taxes?

hi all; hope everyone had a nice holiday. well, i have any other question that i have look all over the internet and found no answer to. i found the following on the social security web site: -------------------------------------------------------------------- Your benefits may be taxable Some people who get Social Security will have to pay taxes on their benefits. Less than one-third of our current beneficiaries pay taxes on their benefits. You will have to pay taxes on your benefits if you file a federal tax return as an “individual” and your total income is more than $25,000. ------------------------------------------------------------------- my ss survivor benefit check and dic check added together is a hair over $25,000 each year. in your opinion, do i have to pay taxes on it? i thought both were tax exempt ... i am confused, so what is new. i thank all for your help with this. teejay

    Thank You All!

hi all; hope this information helps others. out of all the 214 pages of my husband's information i sent, they only needed (i was told by the va rep) was: * his death certificate (showing hepatitis c caused the hepatic cirrhosis that in turn caused his death) * our marriage certificate * the blood transfusion record from his cfile (2 pages) * the letter from his personal doctor saying the cause of his death was due to hep c contacted from blood transfusion and he had no other risk factors this was the only information i was told by the va i needed to send. i guess i really can't be to upset because it was really a big learning experience for me. something else i feel is important is i should have ordered my husband's cfile from the national archives "before i filed my claim". after anyone files a medical claim with the va, the medical records are requested and send to the va for review and you can not get them until the claim is complete. i think i would have felt better if i had ordered and had my husband's cfile in my hands to review before the claim started just in case some of the pertanent medical information fell through the cracks during the processing. hind sight is 20-20 as they say. have yourself a nice day. teejay

    Thank You All!

Hi; I want to thank all of you for your guidance through this mess of getting my DIC and Social Security Death Benefit. There is so much information about the documents needed that the Veteran Association and Social Security do not explain completely to you. Through trial and error and with all your help I finally was able to provide the paperwork they actually needed. I sent a total of 214 pages of information that the VA told me to send, ONLY to find out at the end I only had to send "5" of these pages in for the award to be granted. Go figure, I can't figure it out. A veteran I was speaking with said he believes the VA does this to prolong the process. I do not know what to think. Anyway, I thank all of you for all your help and my prayers are with anyone applying for benefits through the VA or Social Security. teejay
  17. i found the answer to my posting. if anyone else has this problem there is a va form you mail in with a copy of your dd-214 and military id. it is form: dd0149 APPLICATION FOR CORRECTION OF MILITARY RECORD UNDER THE PROVISIONS OF TITLE 10, U.S. CODE, SECTION 1552 http://www.dtic.mil/whs/directives/infomgt/forms/eforms/dd0149.pdf
  18. hi all; a friend of mine rank doesn't match. he went to get a new military id card yesterday and was told his dd-214 has e-1 and his id card (the card he has had since he was released from service in late 70's) has e-2. the gentleman who helped him yesterday said his rank showing on the record the va rep accessed showed 0 and nothing else. no one seems to know hoe to fix this so my friend can get a new military id card. my friend has a general discharge under honorable conditions. i was told to contact the base he was released at, but the base (fort ord) closed in 1994. any help from you all is greatly appreciated.
  19. hi all; this was my husband that i was speaking of. i do not understand the disability ratings system. this is what a veteran rep told me. my husband was severely injured while in service and that caused his honorable discharge and eventually his death.
  20. thank you all for your help. teejay
  21. hi all; well i am back for your advise on The Direct Express® Debit MasterCard. is anyone using this? what do you think of this card? is this a better choice than any other debit card? what is negative things about this card? i was told by a veteran i was chatting with at muskogee that it is a good thing to use, he changed from his personal bank to this. i use my bank for auto deposit at this time. as always, i appreciate all you advice. teejay --------------------------------------------------- if you would like information on this: http://www.usdirectexpress.com/edcfdtclient/index.html
  22. hi all; i am back with an important question. i have called a few attorneys to see if they give a no cost consultation and have not found one yet, so i am asking my little question here. can a creditor garnish my social security survivor benefit check or my dic check? i do not know whether to cancel my auto deposit to my bank and have my checks mailed to me or not. i asked the bank manager at my bank where my checks go about the garnishment issue and i could not get a straight answer from him either. a social security rep told me that shortly no more checks will be mailed, only auto deposit will be offered. the reasoning is: will save the government a great deal of money on postage and the cost of generating a paper check, plus the expense of re-issuing lost/stolen checks. is anyone using the social security "direct express" debit card? i ask a customer rep if my money could be garnished if i used their card and could not get a straight answer. the bank it comes from is "comenca bank". thank you for your help with this. teejay

    Dic And Bankruptcy?

hi all, if i have to wait to file a bankruptcy and the creditors get a judgment(s) against me, can they enter my home and seize my personal possessions ... at this time i do not have the money to file. is there anything i can do to stop the judgement(s) other than bankruptcy? i thought all the stress was over, here we go again. i started my benefits this month and now seems all the creditors knows. haven't heard a peep from the creditors until yesterday. thank you all for your help. teejay
