I read a great article on some of the suspected long term effects of the Anthrax shots I know sleep apnea was one of them. The local paper here in Virginia did a 4 part article of the effects of Anthrax and how the DOD withheld hospital information. A lot of the things associated with Gulf War syndrome are also associated with Anthrax shots I will try and post that link sometime today.

Dear Fellow Veterans & Friends.
Allot of the shit stiring by Nicholson and Buyer is because they dont want us to enjoy the benifits we earned. They see it as there money not ours. This pay period. Go out and do something nice for yourself and family and think of those two as you enjoy your money. IF hey had a choice they would take the food out of you and your familys mouth, So go have a prime rib tommrow, and enjoy the fact those two lunch bullys cant steal your lunch money.

Thats all the VA awarded me was 10 percent for GERD but thanks to your info I have filed a NOD and DRO looking for 30 percent. Before I found hadit I did not know what a NOD or a DRO was. If it was not for you people here I would have taken whatever the VA gave me and walked away. Now I have learned appeal, appeal appeal

Dear Fellow Veterans & Friends.
Last month it was posted on hadit here that the disablity commisson was not going to change severl pratices of the VA in disablity law. I think one was disablitys and genetics, and the IU. Im ot sure but you can look in the past and find out what the commission is not going to deal with.
When that was announced the VA shortly announced its interest in taking IU vets and re hablitate them back into the work force.
Now that is not all bad but I know the effort will not be genuine but one of merly saving money at the expence of disabled veteran. However it would be a massive program they would have to set up to put millions of vets back into the work force and not have headlines in the news papers about the vets who could not fit into the placements they were forced into.

Old 5311
Did they gave you a reason? How long were you in the Navy for. Were you exposed to asbestoes prior to joining or after getting out of the Navy? Did you have xrays showing scareing on the lungs?

Greetings Berta
Should I leave it alone or ask the question of why I didn't get two ratings, asthma 30% and Sleep Apnea 50%. I was rated 60% prior to this increase to 70%. I'm currently working and have four other reopen claims (lower back, skin rash, neck pain, sinus problem) pending VA decision---they were submitted Dec 2004.

I my self would appeal Just Due a NOD because If you use a CPAP machine it is cut and dry 50%

I do not have my medical records I just found out about the asbestos in October when I signed up for the Gulf war register. I am currently rated at 60 percent. 50 % Sleep apnea, 10 Percent Tintuis (sorry bad speller ringing in my ears) and 10 percent Acid reflux.
I NOD then rating for acid reflux, and NOD the denial of asthma plus right shoulder injury and never even checking me for asbestos. I asked for a DRO.

If you search hadit for Scheduled C & P Asbestos related lung disease- there is much in there and the memo you referred to-
my PDF couldn't be attached- it is the VA Navy PIES list-
It is the list of Navy occupations and also their association to asbestos-
some have no association, some have highly probable-
If the VA simply goes by your DD 214 there is chance they would overlook other jobs you had while in Navy-
If you give me the occupational codes you had in service- like MM or EN etc. I can look it up on the list and see what VA says as to exposure level-
Berta
Thank you as always you are a wealth of knowledge that I wish the VA had. I was Air Force my two Job codes were C2A671A witch basically means Flying Crew Chief, 2A671A Jet engine mechanic. The VA Hospital are the ones who told me I had the scaring of the lungs. That is the first step of the disease. I was a 17 year old kid when I enlisted in the Air force ( worked pumping gas.) I retired in 2003 after 24 years in USAF so there is no way it can not be related to service. As always thanks for all you do.

Here is a great site for your friend to learn how to work the child support issue. There are some lawyers on this site that give free info also. http://www.divorcesource.com/
Have her go to the military issues bored and she will get her answers. Divorce Source is to divorce what Haditit is to veterans.
I wish her luck

Greetings all
I searched and searched but can not find what the VA considers asbestos related diseases. When I look in the Board Descions it keeps refering to DVB Circular 21-88-8, Asbestos Related Diseases. I searched the internet and all I find is BVA descions listing DVB Circular 21-88-8. Does anybody know where I can find that Circular.
Thanks,
Jim

All it takes is a simple xray to find out weither or not you were exposed to asbestoes. If you were it will show up as scaring on your lungs. I highly recommed you ask for a xray specfically to check for asbestoes.

Greetings
I received my brown envelope today and was rated 50% for Bronchial Asthma with Obstructive Sleep Apnea with an effective date of Feb 2004 and payment start date of 1 Nov 05 at overall 70%. I was rated at 60% prior to this increase. I requested my NOD be reviewed by a DRO. Thanks to all for this successful outcome. I have three other reopen claims pending review. Question: Will I get any back pay. Again, thanks for your help.
Best Regards

Let me also add my congrats and add my two cents if you don’t mind. I believe you were hosed I also receive 50 percent for sleep apnea. If you use CPAP machine it is cut and dry and automatic 50 percent. So if you are using a CPAP you are getting the standard VA shaft. Not receiving pay for you asthma. I know I should not due this but I am going to assume you are retired military. If you are retired military under the Concurrent Receipt you will receive no back pay. I am also retired military and it took almost 1 year for my initial rating and of course I received no back pay. As a military retiree the longer it takes the VA to rate you the more money it saves the US government.

I will try to make a long story short. Retired from USAF April 03. Submitted claim Aug 04 Received rating Aug 05. On my initial claim listed Exposure to Asbestoses. On rating Asbestos was not mention. Went to register for the Gulf War registry. I was given complete physical on October 6th. Yesterday I got the results scaring on my lungs due to Asbestos. I had already sent in a NOD on my rating My question for the group does anybody know now what to expect health wise. I mean the VA does not tell me anything and to tell you the truth I am a little worried about scaring of the lungs. Thanks for any info.

Did he get his Sleep Apnea secondary to PTSD? Looking to find how others connected COSA if not diaznosed during service. Also looking for central sleep apnea
Vetwife Advocate
No he was diagnoised with his Sleep Apnea while in the Navy. They issued him a CPAP machine and sent him on his way.
