I would talk to your pharmacist about your med combination; they tend to be the most knowledgeable in that regard. I can, however, say that the drugs that most often cause issues are NSAIDS, SSRIs and MAOIs. SSRIs (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors) and MAOIs (monoamine oxidase inhibitors...I think; it's been awhile:-) are largely for depression/anxiety. I'm guessing the clonazepam is being prescribed for anxiety for you given your PTSD. The only thing I would worry about is that you are taking a few drugs that can cause drowsiness, but if you're alert and it's not affecting your rate of sleep, it shouldn't really be an issue.

Thanks. The second reason I posted this is you can only read so much on the side effects and I was wondering if anyone else has. I am going to bring it up with my doctor.

If you go to http://www.myhealth.va.gov/ you can find info on prescription conflicts and if you register and sign a form at VA you can order prescriptions over the internet. You can also tract your weight, blood pressure, glucose tests and soon see appointments and also blood tests.

Gabapentin is a FDA prescription drug approved to help people with seizures. The VA uses it for relief of neuropathy pain and many think it can help depression.

At your VA should be a Medical Docotr in the Pharmacy that can review with you the meds prescribed and why to take them. Don't forget that you are a vital part of your treatment plan.

Good Luck

Veterans deserve real choice for their health care.

Do you mean Gabapentin. That is Neurontin.

Anyway, there are 4 meds that are serious for Sleep.

The Neurontin, Flexoril, Ambien and Clonazepam should Keep you pretty sleepy.

A Veteran is a person who served this country. Treat them with respect.

A Disabled Veteran is a person who served this country and bears the scars of that service regardless of when or where they served.

Treat them with the upmost respect. I do. Rejection is not a sign of failure. Failure is not an option, Medical opinions and evidence wins claims. Trust in others is a virtue but you take the T out of Trust and you are left with Rust so be wise about who you are dealing with.

Yow- I take Clariton and can only handle about half a pill-for allergies

and I usually dont even take it at all-

It knocks me out-

One thing too- some of those anti jungle pills- (PTSD meds) are VERY powerful especially when combined with other meds-

Spike the net has some good info on meds and what should not be taken with other meds-

Guaymasjim- dont know about last years vbonuses but this years are being looked into By the OPM-

Me and Spike deal with Buffalo RO- and I told my Senator that Ms Terrell-their Director-who got $10,000-that is she might get $10,000 did not even heed my letter to her griping that my IMOs were ignored.

She did get the VSM -when I raised heel in 2005 to order a new DRO review-

I asked them to CUE what they had sent me-

I got the new review and Still for the third time-

my IMOs were completely ignored.

My POA claimed he himself presented them again to the DRO but the SSOC states that never happened.

I even copied my IMOs to the back of the letter I sent her-Ms. Terrell

and they still remained not even considered by the RO.

Buffalo needs an overhaul.

Gabapaestin (Muscle Relaxers)

Doctors should not prescrib more than one antidepressent at a time.

Taking more than one may cause a toxic effect & you may die from it as a result. Don't let them give you zoloft for an antidepressent, Trazadone for sleep, another for fibromyalgia or yet another for pain & or anxiety.

Benadryl is also prescribed for insomnia.

Keep your antidepressent intake to "ONE" type only at a time. Don't mix them.
