60% Service Connected

Hello all and happy Thanksgiving i have a question i am 60 % service connected is my wife and daughter eligible for tricare health coverage or do i have to be 100% my disabillities make it hard for me to maintain a job to get health insurance. My daughter is 19 months and was born with mastocytosis which is a life long disease and cost a lot of money to treat. thank you in advance

Tricare is for active duty, and also retirees and their dependents-

If the VA rates you at 100% P & T , then your dependents would be eligible for CHAMPVA-the Civilian Health and Medical Program (VA)

If you are a military retiree- do you qualify for CRDP or CRSC with the 60 % SC rating? I assume- but could be wrong- that this was a VA rating and not a military discharge rating???

If the VA awarded this and you have medical evidence that your SC disabilities prevent you from working- by all means apply for TDIU- if the VA determines you are TDIU P & T (Permanent and total)then your dependents will be eligible for CHAMPVA.

Concurrent Receipt is for 20% or more for CRSC and 50% or more for CRDP. Note: You can be rated at 60% for single disability and qualify for IU.

But of course, NOT for Chapter 61 military retirees no matter what or how high their rating is.

Comparing CRSC and CRDP

It is important to note that Retirees cannot receive both CRSC and CRDP and must elect one each year through an annual “program election.” Many retirees are confused about which is better for them. When making this decision, please note the following characteristics of CRSC and CRDP:

CRSC Eligibility

Eligible claimants are/ have:

Retired with 20 yrs Active or Reserve Duty;

Receiving retired pay;

Retired pay must be offset by VA payments;

A 10%+ disability rating; and

At least one combat-related disability.

Combat-Related Criteria

Combat-related criteria include those VA rated disabilities that occurred under the following situations:

In the performance of duty under conditions simulating war (e.g., named exercises, routine field training exercises/F0000000000000000000TX)

While engaged in hazardous service (e.g. flight, diving, parachute duty)

Through an instrumentality of war (e.g. combat vehicles, weapons)

As a direct result of armed conflict (e.g. Purple Heart)

OR

Presumptive cases (e.g. Agent Orange, radiation exposure, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder)
