HadIt.com Elder john999 Posted January 6, 2009 HadIt.com Elder Share Posted January 6, 2009 I would prepare to watch out for questions about your childhood, familiy situation, teenage years, problems with the law or with school. You want the VA to know that before the stressors you were a normal person with no personality disorders or pre-existing conditions. After the stressor is when you began to have symptoms of PTSD. Don't let them go on a fishing trip into your life before the military. Just tell them everything was fine before the military and the stressor and now it is not. simple fly
I would prepare to watch out for questions about your childhood, familiy situation, teenage years, problems with the law or with school. You want the VA to know that before the stressors you were a normal person with no personality disorders or pre-existing conditions. After the stressor is when you began to have symptoms of PTSD. Don't let them go on a fishing trip into your life before the military. Just tell them everything was fine before the military and the stressor and now it is not. put names with those in your stressor, your relationship with that person etc, your fears.how your life was "father knows best' and went to "hell boy" .......don't leave out problematic marriages since, family life since, job, all this has to be post stressor. do not fight emotions, but don't show anger towards the doc. tell of episodes of self medication, don't sugar coat it.tell of any fear of going around crowds.if you have been incarcerated, don't hold this back. don't start talking about voices and dreams of mayhem...not ptsd related.and remember as stated by john999,don't get of on a tangent about childhood, mean fathers, mothers that raped you,or pulling legs off chickens,a ptsd eval doc will shoot you down.
