Claims Payment

Question

I received a statement of case dated Feburary 10th. It stated I was awarded 70% PTSD and other 2 claims were denied. I was advised by my DAV rep to wait for benefits to start coming before appealing or doing anything else about my case. My question is how long will it take before I actually receive a check? I have called the 800 number several times and told that my file is at the local office. I call the local office and they have no info one way or the other. Vets have told me it would be a week or two, its been 5. I have not received an award letter yet. Does anyone know of a time frame for all this to occur? :D

"the service rep told me i had a year to respond, even though the paper work I received said to reply within 60 days and up to one year do whatever..."

If I felt I had a reason for a NOD I would file it within the 60 days

BUT

you do have up to one year from the date of the decision --

but be sure to read your decision completely and understand it,

that is how you will form any NOD.

It's been so long since I provided VA with my Direct Deposit info

I can't answer that question.

Send an iris inquiry to try and see if they have your Direct Deposit info.

or check with your financial institute as to who has your a DD line to

your accounts.

carterdap,

Chill out a bit and give it another 10 working days.

Well, I mean to say that's what I would do and then reevaluate.

Do you even have a NOD or Request for Reconsideration ready yet ?

Can you safely scan your decision in here and then let us know what

your disagreement is - showing what medical evidence shows a that

higher or additional percentage is warranted.

i plan to appeal the 2 rejected claims, i am okay with the PTSD, 70% rating, not with the hypertension and infertility claims. My current primary wrote a statement after looking at my readings while on active duty that in all likelihood hypertension started in service.....i believe that that statement was overlooked as well as the high readings in my record, VA choose to focus on the one or low readings verses the numerous high readings..i had female surgery and other problems while on active duty that in accordance to medical research would more than likely cause infertility, i believe that i have valid reason to appeal the decisions.....i am receiving mixed messages from hadit responders, with my limited expertise in dealing with government agencies, i do believe that it would be best not rock the boat while they are working on the current decision....i definitely will not be doing anything before receiving the letter of decision........I have all I need to prepared the Request for Reconsideration.....

Also, the 2 service officers that i have through the Dav have not assisted me with completing the forms, meaning, they never told me how to word my statements or any of that, is that something that they do? Thanks for your help Carlie!!

carterdap,

Were those two disabilities flat out denied service connection

or granted at zero percent or deferred ?

You will need to study the rating decision itself to know what

it is you are filing a NOD or re-con on.

You will need to study the

1) Evidence Section

2) Reasons and Bases Section

3) Decision

Without doing this you might screw things up.

Find your conditions here to see how your

medical evidenc should rate those two conditions.
