Hep C And Va Hosp.

Question

after begging and complaining to a physicians assistant i finally had the full run of tests done and found out i had hepatitis c. at the memphis va hospital. this was several years ago. they also determined i had hep.b at one time and fought it off.

before i found out all this i had several endoscopies and one colonoscopy. i had been to g.i.lab many times to be bloated up and examined.

i was a regular at the g.i.lab.i will have to go through my records to determine the time lines.

i have filed for service connection in the past for hep c and have been denied a few times.

now i am wondering if it is possible i contracted it at the hospital, and i am not trying to belittle the memphis va ,because they have practically saved my life.

i do know i recently had a colonoscopy ordered and had it done at a private clinic.,not at the va. i guess they did not want to take any chances.

what i am wondering is should i file a claim now even though the memphis va is not on the list, could be through the fault of the instrument manufactor or what have you there might be a possibility there will be widespread cases of this .

also i am wondering if there are some tests to evaluate how long you have had it.

i got it somewhere i am not a needle user and never have been,i did get a tattoo just before i joined the army.

skunk,

If you feel and you can get a doc to opine that your hep is the results of

contamination from VAMC medical equipment -

you would file for hep. under an 1151 claim.

If it were to be granted it would not be service connected but the residuals

would be compensated - as if, service connected.

Hope this helps a vet.
