Question

I know that my claim has been to the rating board and to the review board. When I called today the VA told me it was being authorized. I was just wondering what does that mean.

Thanks for any and all Help

All I can suggest, is that you trust nothing anything the VA verbally tells you. Once it's in writing, than it's golden.

I agree-

In 2006 a 800# rep acted like I had won the NYS lottery as he said my claim was being authorized for 3 signatures.

This used to mean an award over $25,000 retro was coming but I didn't get too excited over this news.

Good thing-

it was being authorized with 3 signatures to be transferred to the BVA.It meant 3 more people at the VA (VCSMs or supervisors) had added their names to the long list of VA employees who refused to read my evidence.)

Last week the 800# told me my claim was being authorized and needed 3 signatures.

I had already confirmed through another entity in VACO that a proper award was being made involving retro. This time I knew what the authorization really meant.

If you fully complied with sending them any evidence they asked for-maybe this is good news for you-

but

But I still tend to only believe the VA has made an award when I have the cash in bank account.

ogj,

Rating Decisions generally need only one signature, that of the Rating Specialist or DRO. A few require approval from higher up, but most require just one.

What they are usually talking about in a situation like what is described here is the action taken by the VSR to promulgate the Rating Decision. In all such cases the VSR's work must be approved by the Senior VSR, also called the authorizor. Both of these signatures are required whether it's a grant or denial. In some cases a third signature is required. Usually this is when a large back pay is involved.

In other words, whether it is a grant or denial it will go through the hands of and be signed off on; however, they aren't all signing off on the same thing. Once the Rating Specialist has signed the Rating Decision and sent it to the VSR, the Rating Decision is no longer under review. The Rating Specialist is higher up the food chain than either the VSR or authorizor.

The approval signatures are based in accordance with the amount of retroavtive payment.

It could be as many as 3 signatures. THE VSCM will be the final approval signature.
