Question

i called the va to check status of my claim and i mentioned before in a prior post that they told me it had to be signed off on by a second rating specialist . now today i called and they tell me it has been decided and that i should be getting a shiny envelope telling me what the rating decision was and for how much , " he jokes and says you have been waiting or a while havent you ?" i asked him to tell me what the rating was or give me any info he had available he tells me " i wont know that until the second rating specialist updates the info in the computer . now how lame is that response . are they just that in the dark or is it there jobs to keep you as blinde as possible . in all of these years of having a claim pending for something or other i have never had my claim checked and rated by two seperate people . and after they tell me its done and a rating is there they cant tell me what it is. am i doing something wrong or did i ask the wrong question ?

reguardless the direction it goes i want to thank you guys for all the support you have given . the info you have and the effort you put toward helping each of us is a blessing . i just want to say thank y ou and god bless .

pray for my wife and i .

Prayers do help!

And one thing is for sure- I never have been told that my claims had been successful by the VARO 800# people-one vet rep practically told me I succeeded in January on a claim- but he said it was a pension claim-I think it was really my AO DIC claim-

I just know that they are putting it with the CUE claim- and the 930 (end product)is still pending.

What is even worse is to get a big check from VA and then have them be unable or unwilling to tell you why-

I had some very frustrating and even fearful days 2 years ago when the VA Regional counsel called a CUE on my offset (which I had Cued myself, they denied and I never pursued it-like a dope.

All I knew was that a big check came and I didnt know what to do with it or what it was for-

I even called them 5 times and told them I had spent it all (not true)so I wish I knew why I got it-

Finally the letter re the CUE that counsel called on them came.

I dont depend on what they say at 800 too much-I know the waiting is just miserable-

Finance department is the majic word- always ask them for the COVERS screen as to where the claim file is.

Dear Fellow Veterans & Friends.

According to the Veterans Benifit Manual. IF the VA makes an over payment that is not the vets fault. The vet does not have to pay it back.

I had an over payment 4 years ago of about 2k and I went to the VBM and photo copyed the page that had the regulatons on it and requested the VA not collect the money. They did not make any further attempts to collect it.

If you owe the VA you can also negotiate a settlement with them according to their own regulations. You can also ask that the debt be waived due to hardship. You don't want to get nasty with them but be persistent.

ammodad: you didn't ask the wrong question and the person you were talking to wasn't blowing you off. It is against VA policy to verbally tell a veteran the outcome of a decision BEFORE he/she recieves his award letter because something may change in the rating decision after the vet was told. I found out the hard way after I told one of my vets about the favorable decision. Three days later he called me screaming what the hell is going on? YOu told me a got the s/c but I just got a letter saying I was denied!" After I had talked to the Coach of the rating board and the RVSR who rated the claim, contradictory evidence was discovered in a second signiture review. which resulted in a denial. So we can't tell the veteran what the decision was; the vet must be formally notified via the letter first.
